L.F.&C. Big "Coke Bottle" Ebony Resto Project
Back in October, I bought a bunch of knives needing TLC from Roland (Kootenay Joe). I think there were 34 knives in total. I've finished with about 3/4 of them. There are 2 big coke bottle folding hunters in the group that I've been really itching to get into. The wife was away this weekend so I got in some quality shop time. I believe that both of these knives were made with ebony scales, so I bought a nice slab of 1/4" Gabon ebony. It was amazing how much rust and crud came out of the LF&C! But, now that the knife is all cleaned up and back together, it "snaps like a gator". (Seriously, this one could take a finger off.) And I am frequently amazed at the "creative" repairs that people do to knives. As you can see in the second picture, at some point, someone used small nails bent over on the outside to reattach the pile side scale. This was my first try working with ebony and I really like it for a big knife like this. The last picture is the other coke bottle and the remaining half of the ebony scale. I think the tang stamp reads L. Weyersburg & Son. I'll post some pictures when I get this one done.

What a save! Looks great!
I have a couple of those in the project pile also, maybe I'll have to dig one out.

Looks awesome, Herb. I had the pleasure of seeing this knife before restore in hand. You definitely did justice to this knife.

Looking forward to seeing the second one too.
