Received today a replacement for my Hattori Black Mamba. 7 1/2" OAL. I like the blade's deep swedge and slight recurved edge. It now impresses me as a quality piece from stem to stern. When the first iteration arrived and it was not quite up to snuff, e.g. a proud pin and a stiff lock, Japan Knife Direct immediately offered a complete refund or replacement. I chose the replacement. JKD provided a level of service and communication I have seldom encountered. Glad to recommend them.

I received this one in the mail today, and I am not only glad, but also relieved. I purchased this back in December 2020. Due to the circumstances with the mail, it was lost for a while. The last update with the USPS was December 31. Both the seller and myself were sure it had been lost, but luckily it showed up today. No updates until today which was stating it was out for delivery.

So here is a new addition to my Camillus 72 Clone Family. An Olsen OK Swell center whittler, pattern 107. It has the Olsen OK brass oval shield, and the Tang stamp on the main clip blade is Olsen OK, H.C., M.I. U.S.A 107. The blades have some of the original luster, but do have stains, spotting, spiders, with a some scratches. I have oiled and exercised the blades with Tuff Glide, and The Secondary Clip blade & Coping Blade have excellant snap now. The Main Clip blade has decent snap, but is not smooth. I am getting a lot of black sediment out of the wells after exercising the blades. I plan on giving it a warm oil bath and working the blades some more to see if it improves. The Delrin handles are tight with no cracks, with very little wear.

I also received this one today. Going to add it to my EDC & Mini Trapper Clone family. It is a Stanley SL33. 3-1/2" long closed, black delrin handles with Yellow Stanley shield. It has a California Clip main blade with a serrated spey secondary blade. The grind seems to be similar to the New Grind style of blades. It has a short subdued match strike nail pull. Both blades have Good snap, but main blade does have a tad of wobble. Not excessive, but you can feel it. I know nothing of the Stanley Brand or who makes them, but for $17 I figured I would give it a shot! The only markings on the blades is a tang stamp with the same design as the Stanley shield on the front of the main blade and SL33 440 SS on the reverse. Will see how it does as an EDC.

Nice! Back in November, I picked up the CV Sodbuster Jr. at Tractor Supply. I like it a lot. Light, but really strong. I prefer the Sodbuster (and especially Sodbuster Jr.) to an Opinel. Way less fiddly, and every time the humidity gets bad, it doesn't take four hands to pry open.

I wish Case still made the locking blade variant of the full-size Sodbuster. I have the linerlock Rough Rider Coal miner, and I'm currently looking at a lockback Herder.

I haven't posted for a while, though I have bought a few knives. Recently, though I found several that at least excited me. These first three are all for my "Knives of the World" collection, and they bring me up to 48 countries represented! First is a hawkbill marked "Aribis Habana", which tells me it is either made in Cuba or for the Cuban market. I could find nothing about it right off hand.

Second is a knife marked "Toledo Australia". I did find something indicating that this was actually made in Australia (apparently there are recent repros, but the small tools in the handle are missing in those). I had been on the lookout for a Whittingslowe, but those are pretty pricey...

Third is one from Hungary--a pretty knife with nice bone handles.

Beautiful knife, really like the patina and about full blades and probably some of the nicest colored Delrin I've ever seen. Had to look twice thinking it was some sweetly colored bone. Congrats, love the swell centers.

I haven’t checked in on this thread in few days. I really like that Mamba. That’s the one I almost bought myself back in December. Glad you got such a great knife.

This came in today. Another addition to my Camillus 72 Clone family. It is a Olsen Knife Company 3-5/8" Carpenters Whittler made in Solingen Germany. In the Olsen Catalogs it was listed as a No.13 Carpenters Knife. It has bone handles, nickle silver bolsters, brass liners, steel pins, and a Federal Style shield. This one was really dirty inside and blades were stiff. I did some cleanup on it, and a warm oil bath. Blades have great snap, no wobble, but do have some pitting, stains, and spiders. The secondary clip blade is missing the tip. From my research, in the early 1960's Olsen outsourced some of it's knives from Solingen Germany. These had the bone handles and federal shield up to 1970. After that they were outsourced from Camillus and they had a silver line and a gold shield line that had the oval shield with Olsen Ok stamped on it, and the Olsen Ok tang stamp. So this dates this knife from the 1960's no later than 1970.

I also received today a "grab bag" type lot with several knives, the most interesting of which is this old Utica. It had some rust, but not deep into the blades. In fact, the blades both have the factory edge on them, and the secondary is still quite sharp. Very nice feel to the knife.

In the same box was an older Boker (only marked BOKER on the mark side and having the tree logo on the pile side of the main blade; nothing on the secondary) and this Tole 10 lockback. I had never seen nor heard of the brand; it's apparently a Spanish company, though the knife is new enough I can't say whether it's actually made there or imported. It's pretty, though, and seems well made.

there was also a Richards (Sheffield) pen knife, a cute little Kutmaster small stockman, and a couple of Victorinox knives for fun.

In recent days there was some discussion about Parker knives, not all of it entirely favorable. Once the quality of manufacture has been examined judgments quickly become subjective. One person is indifferent about a knife, another finds the same knife greatly appealing. Such is the human condition. Here is my recently arrived Japanese Parker. I can see why Kennedy Knives selected this knife for his store. It is well put together: tight runup, perfectly centered blade, smoothly working lock. I like smooth bone and these covers press my buttons. No, this knife is not at the same level of a GEC or a Bulldog, or top of the line Japanese blade, but for around $50 bucks I feel I have acquired a good looking, eminently practical, knife.

Great look'n knife Garry! I'm gaining more and more respect for Parker knives all the time!
