Please help.. need info on this case knife
Hello
I’m new to this forum. Own many new case knives but this one was my grandfathers. I understand the the case stamp dates it from 1920-1940. My assumption is that it is a Texas jack.. I have searched for “like” knives but come up empty. Very empty.
The unusual items to me... no model number references on the blades, the clip blade is beveled at the top, no case logo on the handle and the handle/ design is very linear.
I would appreciate any info from the community. Model number, handle material, why the lack of badging... I would appreciate any comments on if rare or collectible. I plan to keep it, but not sure if I should carry it or keep condition as is. Thanks in advance.

I am not a Case expert, but that is what I would call a Doctors or Physician knife. It has genuine Pearl handles an looks in great condition. In Sargents book 5th edition on pages 96,97 they have some photos. If the length closed is 3 1/4" long it could be model # 82086 , there are other models depending on the length. You have a very nice knife. Others will come along and are more knowledgable than me ,and can give you more accurate imformation.

I agree with comments already made, it’s a “physician’s” knife. Would need to know the closed length to determine which pattern. It is very common for knives handled in mother of pearl to have no shield (badge as you call it).

The length is 3 1/4 inches closed.. I have seen physician knives out there, and that helps. Again, thanks for any info. I have already begun looking for that suggested model #. It’s unfortunate that I don’t have any backstory on how he came across it. But the search is half the fun.

3-1/4 inches with a long pull opener would make it an 82086-1/2LP. From the looks of it in the pictures it’s in excellent condition. Fairly rare to find a pearl that’s not cracked, chipped or broken. Very nice knife!

Awesome little knife in great condition. Does the purse snap have any markings on it?
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Interesting question on sleeve ... it’s a nice, lined and stitched sleeve. No markings that I can see.
I appreciate all the comments.. my original issue was whether to carry it or set aside / display as keepsake. My typical approach is to carry, create the memories by using it. I’m a fan of patina vs grade or condition. between the blade type (sharp clip), pearl handle, and condition I feel the best option is to display.. also insures I can hand it on down. Not enough things these days seem to span multiple generations.. plus I will have plenty of other case knife patina options..
Again, thanks to all.

For me that would be a display knife.

I applauded your decision to keep it for display and an heirloom for future generations.
It would devastate me if I lost or damaged such a knife that had belonged to my grandfather.

Stunning old CASE! And the fact it was your grandfather’s makes it that much better! I usually say pack them and enjoy, but in this case I agree. It’s too nice and too rare to see MOP from that era in that good a condition. I say display it and pass it down.
