Purchased this WW 2 Army Air Corp pilots knife recently. Michael Silvey says that Camillus produced about a million of these knives during WW 2. Ulster also made some of this model. Main blade has not snap and all the blades have seen some abuse at a grinding wheel but still proud to have it. Of course, I love the bones.

I just pulled this 501 Buck out of the mailbox..I paid $10 for it with a lose, unlocking blade.. shipped it to Buck and for another $10 they replaced the blade and gave it the spa treatment..I'm very happy with this one for $20 total investment.. going to carry it tomorrow...hair popping sharp..

Nice old knife, Floyd. I had an uncle who was in the Army Air Corps, top turret gunner during WW2. He never talked about it, found out after his death that his crew was very active over Germany and Poland. I never knew, until now, that there was a knife. What is the blade configuration and what is there about it that would make it Army Air Corps?

There was a second one that sold 2 days after the one I bought. Waukonda I identified it from the book Pocket Knives of the United States Military by Michael W Silvey. Blade configuration is pretty much like a stockman.

Great find Floyd. Beautiful knife and love the handles. Plus, it is always nice to find a knife that may have had a relation to a point in History such as WW-II.

Received this one today. Another addition for my Camillus 72 family. It has the long line Camillus tang stamp. It has the dark brown delrin handles with the federal shield. The blades are tight with no wobble and great snap. They have the original luster but do have some age spiders and staining. Thankfully it has not been abused on a stone, file or grinder. The blades were a little stiff,but after some exercise with some Tuff Glide, they are smooth now. This is the first long line 72 I have in dark brown. Excuse the photos. Rainy all day so had to use inside lights which makes the handles look almost black in some of the photos.

Congrats Papa Bones. I think those handles are referred to as brown stag but still plastic. Very knice example.

WOW...GREAT SCORE, Ryan...well done. The second knife I bought (after my first knife: a 1974 Case 6207) was a Buck Esquire. I loved that knife...it was my main EDC knife during my Boy Scout years in the 1970's. I don't know if your 501 (which someone else referred to as a "Squire") is the exact same model I had, but it looks pretty similar. Great knife...wish I still had my old one, I would definitely send it in to Buck for the "spa treatment" like you did with yours.
