Nice photo, John. The 119 is a great medium sized fixer that has a myriad of uses. It just feels right in the hand.

One of my favorite fixed blades.Would love to know the history on this one.John Ek Hamden CT model 6 serial # M393. Received as a gift for helping out a fellow knife collector appraise a bunch of knives. Tried to pay him for it but he wouldn't take it.Said he appreciated me taking the time to help him out.

Yes they do go for a lot of money but it will never be sold by me.Maybe whomever takes over my accumulation when I pass will sell it. I do not sell something that is gifted to me ever!1967redrider wrote: ↑Mon Jan 11, 2021 1:02 amknife7knut wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 11:39 pm One of my favorite fixed blades.Would love to know the history on this one.John Ek Hamden CT model 6 serial # M393. CS Original Bush Ranger: SK5 steel equivalent to American made 1084 which made for an excellent field blade and my favorite outdoor knife.

Re: Show off your fixed blades!
Thanks for the input John. In every respect, feel-balance-cutting, it is about as fine a fixed blade field knife as I have ever encountered. Naturally, production ceased. CS has a new knife with the same name, but it is quite different.

A fine looking field knife, Garry...and the sheath looks to be very well made and quite sturdy.

Thank you LJ. CS did an all around good job with this at a modest price. Of course that was maybe 10 years ago.

Very nice Garry!
It has that C/S solid look about it, and I'll bet it performs as well as it looks!

Thank you Marco. The SK5 steel developed sort of a cult following: very sharp and easily sharpened. It has not been available for a long time according to my info.

It sure makes one wonder why they would do that.Quick Steel wrote: ↑Mon Jan 11, 2021 7:42 pm Thank you Marco. The SK5 steel developed sort of a cult following: very sharp and easily sharpened. It has not been available for a long time according to my info.

Marco, usually discontinued products result from inadequate sales and therefore inadequate profits. A rumor is that Camillus used considerable SK5 and when that brand departed so too did sufficient demand.

Re: Show off your fixed blades!
Marco, I got to wondering how good was the info I was passing on to you. It was years old and mostly scuttlebutt. So I spent time with Google and low and behold SK5 is still around. Even Cold Steel has it in one or another of their knives. As a Japanese carbon steel it might also be commonly used outside the U.S. Anyway, properly heat treated, this carbon steel seems very practical for many knives and swords.

Re: Show off your fixed blades!
Thanks for that additional info Garry. It's nice knowing that they found something extremely useful, and instead of tossing it by the wayside they continue using it. Now THAT makes sense to me!

A rare Boker Leo-Damast V, the 600 layer damascus was forged by Markus Balbach of Germany, and German custom knife maker, Patrick Teyke assembled them for Boker. Markus used 4 different steels in this damascus and was forged thick for this integral. It has Desert Ironwood burl handles. The steel takes a nice edge and holds it very well.
