A beautiful gathering of Case's Gary, thanks for showing. A couple of questions: In your first picture posted at the far right is a sheath with metal sleeve over the front seam. I've seen these from time to time on ebay. What is the purpose of these sleeves? And are they used specifically for a certain pattern?

I mainly see them on Case's Pattern # 523-5 which is the Stag Handle Case 523-5 That's Pictured. It has the same sheath . The Sheath on the far right is on a Leather Handle Pattern # 362 & should be on the 325-5 next to the 362 . As Far as the metal on the edge of the sheath That's a question I don't have the answer for . I personally don't like the one's with the metal guard around the edge . I've noticed through the years that if you leave the knife in the sheath it will rust quicker than just leather sheath . I try not to leave them in the sheaths . All the one's shown came off a USA Board that I busted up. Some of the Leather Handle Case Fixed Blade Pattern's Shown you don't see much and Case Fixed Blades is what I like

I see this type of a sheath on knives that were made in Scandinavia and also in some German models. If I had to guess I would venture that it is to reinforce the most vulnerable area of the sheath.Pushing a knife that has no cross guard into a sheath can cause the tip of the blade to bottom out and cut into the stitching.It can even happen with a guarded knife.
If a knife is put away wet(not drying the blade after cleaning it)over time the moisture can rot the stitching as well.

The Old Hickory is similar to and suffers from the same "no guard" ailment as this Russell Green River hunter that I picked up last year.

I'm thinking about having to solve that issue myself on a knife. I'm wanting to put my own handles on some cheap "slightly rusted" Green River Dadley blanks I found, but I want to have a guard. I have an old Dexter butcher knife that belonged to my great-Granddad that uses a piece of L-shaped steel attached by the front pin to the blade and handle that is bent to form the guard. That's the idea I'm gonna copy. Works, and isn't a big a headache as trying to cast a fancy guard or try to contour it into the handle like some other knives use.

Gary, I'll quote from the COA.

"This Mark II is one of a 100 piece limited edition produced in 2002, for A.G. Russell Knives, each with a unique serial number. This version combines features found on the Mark II throughout its illustrious history, including a "cats tongue" coated stainless steel grip that is powder coated with cardinal black and gray, and the addition of a 154CM stainless steel blade. The classic leather sheath has been reproduced for that famous Mark II look and feel. Serial # Z00052
It does not have the 5 degree cant.

Hi Gary this is an Early Gerber Mark 11 from 1968 been toted and used love the brochure that came with it . Back in 1968 one like this was $31.95 . Doesn't sound like a lot of money now. If i remember most military guy made about $78.00 a month I got $90.00 a month in 1970 .

That one reminds me of this Russell knife with a finger guard cast into the front bolster.
