Always good advice with an old firearm Ken. Having posted the picture I got the revolver out and examined it a little closer. The firing pin does not show at the recoil shield when the trigger trips the hammer. On these the firing pin is spring loaded in a bushing and not part of the hammer. Wouldn't fire. The cylinder lock up is a little worrying too. I'll tell you what though, the fitting of the cover plate and internal workings show a quality of design and craftsmanship that was common in that time and place and rare to find these days.Mumbleypeg wrote: ↑Mon Dec 14, 2020 3:50 pmAny time I have an oldie like that, or one with any questions at all about its safety or reliability, I take it to a competent gunsmith. Just noticed it looks like all three 32 S & W's posted have the same grip panels.

I hadn’t taken my colt out in a while, and can hardly replenish ammo right now, but I’ve really been wanting to go since I got out of my sling.

Nice! I don’t have a Colt. But my edc is a Commander size Ruger. I love the balance and feel of the commander sized 1911.

Is it a steel or alloy frame? Colt offered both. The original allow frame was simply called the "Commander" while the steel frame version was the "Combat Commander." They later changed the name of the alloy version to "Lightweight Commander" to help eliminate confusion.

Ruger makes both as well. Mine is stainless frame and slide. I prefer than personally. The model is 1911CMD in Ruger terminology.desmobob wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 1:29 pmIs it a steel or alloy frame? Thanks Willy and Wade.
Nice pair of colts desmobob.
The ruger’s are great 1911’s for the money. This ruger was the first handgun I bought, in 2016. 2k rounds so far and I trust it. I got the colt this year and I plan to use it for a custom build in the future. The colt hasn’t given me any problems either but I need to tighten the extractor a bit more.

Thanks Paul.
My Combat Elite was the basis for a USPSA race gun for a few years. When the closest club stopped holding events, I turned it back to stock. Both of my Colts have some Chip McCormick internals and extended thumb safeties. When I bought my first 1911 I didn't care for it because my thumb went past the safety and it was difficult to snick the pistol off safe. The extended safeties fixed that. Love 'em now.

One of my great regrets is not buying a 1911 pattern 20-30 years ago. I have always wanted one. The prices have now simply become ridiculous, and of course, the availability of brands & models to me in California is now very limited. For example, I can no longer get either the Remington or the Colt. I'm down to Armscor (Rock Island, etc), Springfield Armory, Kimber & Sig. There are also some high end & customs (Les Baer, Wilson Combat, Nighthawk), but I would never spend that much!

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff
I may catch some flack for this, but it’s my opinion and my opinion only. I own a Kimber 1911 officer size (actually my wife bought it, but I carry it more than she does). I personally believe they are WAY over priced for what they are. When buying a Kimber you’re paying for all those fancy full page adds in the magazines. I wouldn’t trade my Ruger, which is considerably more affordable for another Kimber.TwoFlowersLuggage wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 7:45 pm One of my great regrets is not buying a 1911 pattern 20-30 years ago. If you just want one to shoot and play with, you really can’t beat a Rock Island. I know folks who have them, and they just plain run! They aren’t the prettiest, but they’re good dependable guns for a good price. I went to buy one when I got the Ruger but they were out of the Rock Island. YMMV.

You won't catch any flack from me on the Kimber - I used to occasionally shoot a rental Kimber at my local range and I wasn't particularly impressed. Of course, it was just a rental gun, so it was probably rode hard and put away wet. I also agree on the RIA - if I were to get a 1911, that would probably be the one I would get.Colonel26 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 21, 2020 11:01 pmI may catch some flack for this, but it’s my opinion and my opinion only. Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff
Didn’t need it and probably shouldn’t have, but..... My local gun pusher had this little Taurus 942 8 shot revolver for a nifty price and it followed me home. It fairly disappears in my overalls britches pocket, which is where it’ll most likely spend most of its time.
One real neat thing is that the rear sight is milled into the top strap, but it has an insert that is adjustable for windage. I suspect the front sight will get some fluorescent paint real soon. Another thing I thought was cool is that the cylinder is recessed like the older S&W revolvers were. It’s a hoot to shoot.

Thanks fellers.

It’s a lr. In theory they make it in magnum, but I don’t know anybody who’s seen one in the flesh.
I agree. I haven’t had one in a while. This one will pull knocking around in the field/walking duty, with a steady diet of cans!

I use that pistol a lot with a .22LR conversion kit from Advantage Arms. No need to pick up brass, and it's very economical, especially since ammo got scarce, then more expensive, then even scarcer. I have the AA kit for my Glock as well and I have a CZ Kadet .22LR conversion kit for my CZ-75.
I used to make it a point to pick up a 500-rd. bulk pack of Federal .22LR whenever I was in Walmart. It use to be ten bucks and change. I still have a couple of cases worth. The CZ Cadet and my other .22LR handguns eat them right up but, unfortunately, the AA conversion kits for my Colts and Glock don't like them.

Yup, can't go wrong with that line of thinking mate; 22LR, and pellet guns are it for training/plinking tools. And I know what you mean about external safety, I prefer it much over my cz's (push button, lever down= funky hand angle).
Every gun out there is different, so you need to take your time, and find one that works for you.
Oh, and the glock is just a fun plinker, as is my Sig. CZ is far more dangerous, as in the good stuff.
