KA-BAR 1198 STAG

Post by Descotty »

Picked this up today. Never seen a KA-BAR with this stag. Assuming its be redone? Amazing snap. Very stout knife. Opinions?

Very nice Scotty! ::tu:: I can't help with your query, but I can say, it really bugs me when one side of the stag is so much thinner than the other. ::td:: If it is a re-scale, you'd think the builder would get something like that right! ::shrug:: Great knife just the same, and ::welcome:: to AAPK! 8)

I believe the knife is correct but looks like something that should have never left the factory.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

I think it may be re-scaled. Looking closely at the photos I seem to see a lot of stag pith which occurs in American stag but not sambar stag which I believe the original would have had. Would also explain the odd dimensions of the scales.

Thank you for all of the answers. I do have some Case folding hunters (Blue Scroll) with dark pith as well. I know the lopsided scales are not preferable to collectors but I really really like it. I have several KA-BAR folding hunters with stag in pristine condition and this has to be my favorite. VERY heavy and substantial. Matter of taste I guess.

Knife Knife. I have a few old stag knives and very seldom do you find matching stag on a knife. Don’t think they we’re worried about knives as a collector piece back then.

Very robust stag. I have 1 stag Case knife that is very robust. I
would not want all of my stag Case knives to be like that however.
