leg knife

Post by Mossdancer »

Hi Inkster;
The leg knife if in excellent unsharpened condition to the right collector could be worth as high as a couple of hundred or as low as a couple of bucks depending on maker.In current condition with what appears as broken tip and a little deterioration of celluloid could still be worth a few bucks if you find someone who wants it. Can you read tang stamp. From outward appearances it looks like what is called a ballet knife. That hook under the heel was for opening bottles.
Keep it stored separately from your other knives the cel could damage itself and the others. I have found that an average humidity of around 70% seems to prolong the cel life. Others may disagree, what works for one may not fit all. If I have disillusioned you my apologies are tendered.
The high value would be for a really nice remington. Should you get a chance read the latest issue of knife world. It has a great article re: less than perfect knives.

I will go along with Mossdancer on the Leg Knife. I sold a Valley Forge on eBay that looked about in the same shape and got 45 bucks plus shipping.

So is it 4 knives?

If you could post the maker name and pattern Numbers, that would help. I can see the Case one, but this would help on answering your question.

Too bad the leg knife doesn't have a corkscrew as well. Then we might be talking about $200+ if it was in slightly better condition :) s-k

boot knife

Post by Mossdancer »

Hey Chris;
Re: The boot knife tang stamp. If you cant get an intelligible photo. Try hand drawing a reproduction of the tang stamp. Show the exact as you can the top right of C including any protrusion and the arc of left side and the bottom with extension of tail of C, put in the ase upper or lower case then show where the extension of Tail ends, Is it straight, arc down does it stop under the a the s the e where? when drawn take a picture and post if you would please. Could be you have a rare tang stamp. Also are the letters in cursive or block style.
Thank You.

PS: If you dont want to do this its okay, but thats all we have to try to decipher wih.

Hi everyone. The shoe knife is making a comeback. Here is a new knife based on this old theme.
