Little .22 autos are fun! I have a Daewoo DP52 I bought back in the nineties. It's a Walther copy and it's extremely well made and accurate. As for .22LR ammo... I always made it a point to try and remember to pick up one of those 550-round bulk-packs of Federal when I was at Walmart. They used to sell them for ten dollars and change. I think I have about twenty or thirty of them, plus a bunch of CCI Standard Velocity (my favorite cheap but accurate target ammo), Winchester and Remington Golden Bullet rounds.

I need to pick y’all’s brains about scopes. I hunt with open sights in the woods, but I think I would be better off with one in the late evening. I can say strait up that a $5-600 scope ain’t going to happen at my hacienda, so all those suggestions are out.

But I’ve been looking at some of the Redfield (made by Leupold) and Vortex scopes. They seem to offer good performance for the price from what I’m reading on other forums. Do any of y’all have experience with either of them? Any suggestions? Any other options in this price range that I should look at?

This will be going on a Marlin lever action if that matters at all. Thanks for the help in advance.

I have a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x24 on my AR. I have taken several hogs in the evening as the sun is going down. It is hard to see the reticle, with the dark hog against a dark brush background and the dark reticle. I reach over and click the knob and to light up the reticle. Put the hog in the center and squeeze the trigger. Easy peasy, dead hog. I think I got mine for $229 (on sale) a couple of years ago, and I love it.

Below is the reticle. The red part lights up to varying levels, but I have only needed the first click (low) to see the reticle.

I looked at those pretty hard a year or two ago. At one time they were offering deal where you got the pistol with two barrels, one for the Tcm 22 and a 9 mm. I thought that would be a real cool little set up!

I honestly didn't know there are pistol you can run funky rounds through. Knew about necked down rifles, just not pistols. Learn somethin' new everyday,

I have a bunch of airguns, from .177 to .25, including some .177 pistols. They are a lot of fun, but if a .177 pellet pistol is your weapon of choice, you might want to reconsider...

An 8-grain .177 pellet out of an average air pistol gives about 3.5fpe (foot-pounds of energy). A .22 CB cap is about 33fpe; almost ten times as much energy! A .22 short makes about 70fpe and a .380 about 250fpe.

I know bob, just kinda stuck with what I can get. Can't get my firearms license (chronic heath), so I go with air guns. I'm thinking the same thing... Next gun is going to be a break action springer (pistol), that way I don't blow through so much co2 .

That's cool. They are certainly a step up from a knife (or nothing!) for self-defense. CO2 pistols are fun and convenient, but I'm too cheap to keep buying the CO2 cartridges.

My all-time favorite .177 pistol is also probably the cheapest at $33.00: the Beeman P17. It's a budget version of their very expensive ($450) P1. And it is so good I bought a second one; one for iron sights and one to use with a red dot optic. It has a wonderful trigger and its accuracy is incredible. It is a single-stroke pneumatic action so it has no recoil. The only drawback is that it is a little fidgety to load and a sort of hard to cock, but it's worth the effort, in my opinion.

It is widely known in the airgun world as a "best buy" and "most bang for the buck" kind of pistol. Another popular one for folks looking for more power is the Crossman 1377 or 1322. They are also pneumatic, but multi-pump, so you can have the power you prefer for the situation. They are also very budget-friendly.

I've never tried a break-action springer pistol but I do love springers. All my rifles are spring-powered. Everyone seems to be going to pre-charged pneumatics these days but the rifles and pistols, plus the necessary compressor or air tanks, are too pricey for me.

Well, since the topic has turned to 22s, here's my old school Browning Buckmark. I bought this new in the late 1980s, and the serial number says it is 1985, which is the first year of production of the Buckmark (before Browning switched to the much better target-style rear sight). I love shooting it, although I always wished it had better sights...

That was my dad's first handgun purchase, he still loves it. I think my one brother picked up one recently but the grip is one piece (covers 3 sides) and my dad still likes his better.


Any of you guys into Top-Breaks? One of these could be my next purchase, in .45LC. I have a Blackhawk single action in .45LC so that's what makes it desirable in that caliber for me. I was looking at the price and availability of .44 Russian ammo- pricey and hard to find. $1 a trigger pull!

On the other end of the price spectrum, a friend of mine had an old H&R top-break 22.

I've had some older top break revolvers and remember some very fine H&R .22 revolvers that were sweet. But it seems there are issues with the top break compared to a solid frame revolver. The issues are usually related to ammo too hot for the frame to handle reliably.

Yep, that is what I got....
I got mine when they first came out. I just thought they were better than sliced bread at that time.
