1919-1940 Case Tested Help Please
Would appreciate any and all help. I will supply photos and measurements. It is 3 7/8" closed.
The handles are Jigged bone. I just happen to currently be selling some mics., so the width from back handle to shield is approx. .0414 inches. I would have called this a Sunday whittler due to the thin profile making it easy on dress pants. Is it correct to think it is a 047 pattern? I threw in the 0 because it opens on opposite sides. It is by the way a single spring. Thanks for your help.

Thanks Johnnie:
Does the 0 indicator go in front of the handle type or the frame(pattern) type?

i think 0 preceding the pattern # indicates a change in blade configuration while a 0 in the middle indicates a change in the frame. not positive about this.

If I may jump in here; If this is a 06247, what does the 6247 have that causes this one to be considered a modification? I'm trying to learn something here!

the 47 frame was first a three blade knife, not counting the 247J and the muskrat which are on a 47 frame.

philco:
From the AAPK research column "The two-bladed 47 pattern is usually placed in the double end jack knife category and measures 3 7/8" closed. As far as I know, they all have a 0 preceeding the pattern number which denotes that the blades will be on opposite sides. The knives normally have a clip master blade and either a pen or spear secondary blade. The spear bladed versions will have a J following the pattern number. WR Case began producing them sometime before 1940". If we take this literally the Pattern number would be IMO a 62047.

Moss,
On the three blade version, the base model (6347) has a clip main blade. The 63047 differentiates in that it has the California clip blade instead of the regular clip master blade, or at least that is my understanding.
In the knife you posted (63047) am I seeing an cut out for accessing the nail nick on the back side? (easy open-ish?)
How old is the 63047 you have pictured?
Phil

They are 65-69 CASE XX
----------- over USA
Easy open= Yes see photo
For some reason the easy open on the red bone is more defined.

Johnnie:
Any idea when they quit making the 2 blade 47. All you ever seem to hear them referred to are as stockman. I wonder if a 2 blade was ever stamped with pattern #.

When I read through this thread, I though this is probably the very reason Case stamped Pattern number 06247PEN on it's modern knifes that have two blades on opposite sides on a single spring.
I have a few of them, it is one of my favorite patterns. I think the early 80's are the last ones I have seen. (In the Pen knife version.) I am sure Johnnie has a more acurate date.
The big boy in the picture is a 1981 06247PEN.
