BLUE SCROLL SET

friend of mine bought a whole set 1977 blue scroll stag
they had been displayed open for years..
he closed them and the backspring on the 87 pattern broke the others seemed ok
just thought i would share this with you all..
i think he is going to send it back to case..

Do you think that keeping the knife in the open position for so long was what led to the spring breaking? I've heard of it weakening a spring but I haven't heard of it causing one to break.

Did he possiably have two blades on the same spring open to the half stop?

i think storing them open did it
looking at the knife from the bottom you could not see the break --but looking inside it is clearly broken--more of a fracture i suppose..
its a two bladed knife with the blades on different springs

I have a display set up with several Boker knives in an old store display case. The knives are mounted in the open position.
I think I'd better close the blades before I get into trouble.

i think if the knives have half stops and the springs are not cocked they would be fine.,
the set i am talking about is from 1977 so who knows how long they were stored like that.but the set had not been tampered with and i seen this with my own eyes--no other way to explain it

philco I agree with you, I have a 1977 Red or Blue (can't remember) Scroll set of 7 Case XX knives they are made to be open in the display but after reading what miked32 says I think I will close mine also shewww I'd be so mad if one broke. Thanks for the head up miked32..

jmo. unless the knife has half stops, they should be displayed full open or closed.
