What is Your Latest Old Schrade?

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

I have the same Schrade/Walden knife but mine has "136" as last line of stamping.
I also have another one, exactly the same except no hole for a bail and it is clearly marked "186".
Both this markings 136 and 186 are very clear. One has a "3" and the other an "8".

Here is a Schrade-Walden 170. Bet you don't have one of these :D

Thousands (tens of thousands?) of 34OT stockman knives are bought and sold as we speak with tang stamps that one would swear say "84OT."

Roland,
The 136 has the shackle of course and it is listed in the catalog as a lineman skinning knife.
Listed as 4-7/16" – Schrade Cut Co. pattern number 1361SHA

The 186 of course without the shackle is listed as a large printing knife (Hawkbill).
Listed as 4-7/16" – Schrade Cut Co. pattern number 1361

Both models were continuations of Schrade Cut Co. patterns and both were last listed in the catalogs in 1983.

Why they listed the same knife with two different model numbers instead of just adding a suffix like Schrade Cut Co. did and Schrade Walden did with other models I have no idea. The only possible explanation I can think of is they were targeting two different markets with the same knife; the electrical industry with the 136 and horticulturalists with the 186. That's my best guess at why there are two model numbers instead of one model number with an optional shackle.

I picked up this pretty neat old schrade cut. It’s a more simple variation of the 8373 3/4, maybe wartime production but that is speculation. Handles are good ol fostarene.

Those 'tradesman' knives are very nice. The first ones were released in September of 1981 (not OLD Schrades). The bone sets came in 3 different colors by the time they had completed all the sets.

The Tradesman knives were sold one at a time, and came in a white box. [no serial numbers] Two of the series were produced first, and the other two knives came later in the year. If you ordered the four knife set, the display came with your order of the last two knives. The ordered set came with serial numbers. One of my sets, came in the Packing Box with the Display, and four unopened white boxes with the knives.

Jack, does your knife have a serial number? ... Ken

I scored another variation of Schrade's 2-1/4" shadow lobster. This one is a MOP 8606 SHA. Now I have 8 different variations of these knives.

This CutCo fish knife is MINT, but it had the original celluloid handles which looked a little rogue to me; Dale re-handled in very nice bone. My scan does not show the perfect mirror polish and etch, but there is not so much as a fingerprint on this one.
