What kind of tools do I need?

Post by GraysonKelly »

Hi all,
My parents are getting me a dremel tool for Christmas and i'm wondering what kind of attachments I need for it so I can use it on my knives. Basically, I want to be able to clean my old ones of grime and rust and such. What kind of attachments do I need? Also, what other tools do I need? What do I used to get the pins out so I can thoroughly clean my pocketknives? How do I get them back in? Where do I get pins? I live in an apartment so I can't have a lot of equipment lying around but I'd like to have some basic stuff for taking them apart, cleaning them and putting them back together. Help, Please!!!

The thread above will show you lots of tips and tricks. Have a read of it, then you will better understand what is involved in cleaning, dissembling, retrofitting and reassembling slip joints.

Regarding your dremel, I know lots of folks have them, and use them for shaping, sanding and cleaning. Pretty much any sort of "assorted bits" package will contain sanding tubes, cut off wheels, and buffing heads.

Welcome!!

Cheers,
D
