Stopped by Academy Sports and they had a 10% off Veterans Day sale going. I wanted a Case with a 2020 tang stamp. They had two knives with the 2020 tang stamp, both 18 patterns (one of my favorite Case patterns). I chose the 3318 (yellow Delrin with CV blades). This type blister package must be new this year, the other knives from the 2010 decade were in different style blister packs. OH

Pawn Shop Pickups

I went to see my daughter and grandkids today and on the way back stopped at
one of my favorite pawn shops and picked up these two.
A I*XL Schrade Wostenholm Canoe made in Sheffield, year 1980
A United Cutlery Sod Buster made in Italy? Cheap, as a matter of fact the shop
guy gave me the Sod Buster just for buying the Canoe.

Here a look at some of the randoms from the last few months. The tiny fixed is a Rogers and the Walden was bought from Charlie C. The dagger is just a $9 Bianca’s Liquidation special. Glorified letter opener, but kinda cool.

That Wostenholm Canoe is gorgeous!

Those "Sodbusters" are confusing. I have a Kissing Crane Coal Miner, made in Germany. Later, they outsourced the things to Italy (which I own no example of). I have an Antonini-made version, also Italy, and it's got a clip point serrated blade. All of those knives are the same dimensions and have identical handles. In fact, that shade of blue on yours is identical to my Antonini:

I have a theory that Antonini made most, if not all of them. I think they were made in Germany, KC sold the tooling to Antonini; then when KC got bought out several years ago, they were contracted to make the pattern for SMKW or whoever owns KC now.

That's a good looking SB Cody, can see it would make a great cardboard box chopper. I think with the serrations, would work better then a plain blade, especially on the thick stuff.

That's a good looking SB Cody, can see it would make a great cardboard box chopper. I think with the serrations, would work better then a plain blade, especially on the thick stuff.

On mine, I had to sharpen the PE poriton, but the SE portion is sharp and very aggressive.

I'm sorta confused with Antonini. This knife is great with cardboard, cordage, etc. without hanging up. And about $5. Yet, I have a "Professional Rescue Knife" from their SOS line for emergency and military with a $200 MSRP (I paid $30) doesn't. The serrations are very short, the fit and finish is really bad, and despite competing with high-end firms, they use 440A in the line. Eickhorn recently bumped their base PRT steel up from a very nicely hardened 440A (with very aggressive serrations) to Bohler N695. The line is about the same price; but a far better knife.

That is quite the haul Byrd. That Tyne knife has sparked a lot of conversation in the past but not much substance. They are really neat knives.
