kissing crane

i know the new kissing crane knives have a shield with two red cranes in it. did the older knives have the red crane? i saw a kissing crane that was suppose be 1916 then he changed it to 60's 0r 70's and it had red cranes in the shield. it looked new to me. can anyone shed some light for me? thanks, Brent

I'm pretty sure most, if not all current Kissing Crane knives with the two red cranes on the shield come from China.....so that might be the giveaway as to country of origin. I have one of the older German made Kissing Crane Copperhead stag handled knives and it's in my rotation of EDC knives. Very nice quality and super stag.

so your old kissing crane has a gold emblem with the cranes on it in the handle. are any of the blades etched? are the tangs stamped germany or kissing crane or anything else? i thought if it had the round emblem in the handle it was older but the one i saw had the round emblem with red cranes. i will have to look again to make sure. thanks for your help.

No....no etching on the blades, but the tang is stamped Soligen, Germany and the shield in the stag handles is indeed gold with two kissing cranes that aren't red.

BRENT I HAVE AN OLD STOCKMAN THAT ONLY HAS ONE CRANE ON IT AND ONLY SAYS CRANE BRAND,CRANE LOOKS THE SAME AS ON KISSINGCRANE BUT ONLY ONE ON IT

thanks guys i think i have the picture, but after looking back at the pics i'm not sure. i am going to try to attach the picture i am reffering to. see what you think. it may or may not show. i think anything but the red cranes are going to be good. and one crane maybe better. the older knives may not have the emblem or etching but are stamped. trying to learn some stuff. Brent

i looked at some kissing cranes i knew to be new and they are stamped with the cranes but doesn't say "made" in germany. it says "kissing crane since 18??". i think there is a difference. i guess if you look hard enough you can find the answer, with some help. thanks, Brent

Hi Guys,
I have a great old stag stockman from the 70's. It has the badge type shield with 2 RED cranes, so that is no determination of age. Robt. Klaas Solingen in a straight line on the tang is an older mark. I have seen some of the newer "China" Cranes and believe the tang mark is arched. Also, on the pre 80's ones you should see a number on back of the tang that is a combination of arabic and roman numerals. Mine has 1235xvii. Hope this helps. The older Cranes are top notch in my opinion.

so, what is the deciding factor? the tang stamp robt klass straight across and a serial number i guess. the new knives are stamped in an arched. thanks for the info. Brent

Actually, I just get the dreaded RED X...

. Maybe it's a conspiracy by the RED Kissing Cranes??

i can't get the pictures off the ebay site but if you go to ebay and search for kissing cranes there is "everythinsforsell" and the other one i can't find the name right now. you will see some with shields and red cranes with or without "rbt klass" stamped. these were the knives that got me to wondering about what was old and new.
are there any good books that show or tell about old german made knives?

You have to save them in your My Pictures folder then you can download them onto AAPK.

I have a robi klaas soligen 3 blade knife 13c bone...what i cannot find anywhere is there is only one crane with its wings open on the knife. It was told to me when i bought it that its from the 70s. It says crane brand on it also and robi klaas and soligen...any info on a knife with one bird?
