Took a group photo of mine recently. First real knife pattern that I owned. Had a couple shell handle knives and a pen before Dad gave me one of his old barlows.

Garry, I like the Barlows you are showing. I am always drawn to Bear Barlow’s for some reason I find them very appealing. I know they get a bad rap on most knives but I think the Barlows are where they shine.
Bighomer, I think you need some more Barlow’s, that just doesn’t look like enough to me. It is a very nice group shot.

Mark, I think you are probably right. I went back over the Bear Barlow and it is a decent, very serviceable, knife. Its not a standout in walk & talk but its okay. F&F quite good.

Great group shot and what a stash. Which one came from dad if you still have it? Great to see them spread out like that

In my opinion, if you want a decent Bear, go with anything from Moore Maker, who does the QC themselves. There's a TON of overlap in both's offerings, just almost all Moore Makers have carbon steel, which honestly, I prefer.

I recently picked up a Bear-made medium-sized lockback (5101LB) from MM, and despite a burn on the tip, and a mar on the Delrin, function-wise it was excellent. I also like that, unlike Case, the yellow Delrin is not as washed-out looking.

My Dad and his Dad appreciated a good pocket knife and both had several knives, although the thought of collecting knives would probably be foreign to them.
My older brother (10 years older)was a knife lover as well and my hero. But I actually started collecting knives when I got out of the service and went back to my job.
Everyone toted a pocket knife and a couple of buddies and I got to buying German made knives wholesale and selling them at work and to friends . Got to trading and that led to my collecting. I had a small collection of around 30 knives ,that included knives that dad had given me, my granddad's Queen congress and his old Cattaraugus barlow. I had a house fire that destroyed that collection, after that I said I'd never collect anything again.
Now I always had a few knives around and toted one every day and then my wife started "flea marketing" she'd go to yard sales and auctions buy "stuff" then resale it at the farmers market/ flea market in Nashville, she'd pick up a ole pocket knife at yard sale now and then and I'd generally take it off her hands, got to trading knives again mostly at work and one thing led to another, and I became the accumulater/ hoarder you see today.
I-man sadly I let a older classmate beat me out of that knife, still a sore spot today.

Great stuff Homer, sorry about the house fire and never meant to bring up a sore spot. Had no idea. Enjoyed your background items, great stories. ::tu::

I’ve been waiting on this one for over 2 weeks. It’s another Robeson by Queen. Not sure what to call the jigging on the bone handles but I like it a lot. Looks like scales on a fish. This one moves up in the ranks as one of my new favorites.

That is a nice covey of Case Barlows you have there Ken!!
A bunch of REAL beauties!!
.
Here is a Western Barlow I found yesterday....
It needs a GOOD cleaning!

822 Barlow 1.jpg
822 Barlow 5.jpg
822 Barlow 3.jpg

It has a tip nick on the pen blade and looks like a small ding on the main blade but it might clean up nice.

My all time favorite pattern. I like the single blade the most.
Here are a few of those in my collection.
