Tried 3 times this week to score this Arizona Ironwood GEC 74. On one site I had 8 different ones in my cart and each time I went to complete the purchase, gone. Got this one from DLT and bought it without being able to pick out the handles I wanted, but it worked out well, love the handles on this ironwood.
The Micarta is the best Micarta GEC I have ever had. The Black Plum jigged bone is really nice as well, you can see the purple color on the side of the bone, hopefully it shows in the last photo. This has to be one of the best runs of GEC’s I have been fortunate enough to buy.

Okay, after loosing my temper with FedEx, a resident down the road brought my package with the 6 knives in it. But the issues don't stop there.
The Barlow is missing the "a" at the end of China. The Muskrat has about a 1/4" of rust along the spine of one blade. This is the first time I've received a new knife with any issues like these. Guess it had to happen to me sometime. At first I thought the boxes were old, but they are made to look "Classic."

You have good neighbors David. ::nod::
Having one knife mis-delivered is terrible, having six mis-delivered is catastrophic.
Hopefully you purchased them from smkw? Give them a call, return the two and have replacements within a couple days.
I also like the "RR Classic Carbon Series" 15 knives in series? Currently 9 are on backorder at smkw.

By the way, I just read your Personal Gallery. Well done, great information.

I’m not sure how GEC assigns shields. The only one I know that is consistent is the acorn shield which is usually only used on knives with stainless blades. The Micarta and the Plum Jigged Bone are the less expensive Tidioute brand and you can tell that by the tang stamp, satin polished blades and lack of swedge on the blade. The Northfield, which is the Ironwood, is usually high polish on the blades, swedge on the blade and of course the tang stamp.

I have no need for another fixed blade, however I picked this one up because I have always been curious about the SOG brand and the price for this discontinued model was very low. The Seal Pup Elite carries a blade of 4 3/4". Came razor sharp and with a good sheath having a plastic liner to preserve the sheath from blade cuts.

The length of the grip is fine for my medium-sized hand. But I would prefer a bit thicker grip. I do not care for the weight distribution which is more towards the handle. As a result the blade feels light and insubstantial which it isn't. This is the same reason I do not care for the feel of classic Ka-Bar knife. Other than that, the fit and finish are quite good. I think many people would find it a very suitable knife for outdoor adventures and would appreciate its comparatively light weight.

OK, today I received another in my "knives of the world"...an old one-blade knife from India (marked as such on the tang). The other markings are "39" and, on the blade, what I believe to be the word "GOAT" along with what I think is the (top of a) figure of a goat. At least, I see the head and horns and the tail. Sorry the photos are a little fuzzy, but hopefully you can get the idea.

And there was, apparently, a "Goat Brand" knife from India...it was asked about a little here in another thread, and someone on Etsy has one for sale for $90 at the moment...There are several on eBay for various prices (more than I paid!). I don't see much about the brand, though.

I’ve never handled a SOG fixed blade. I am surprised it was a bit disappointing Garry. All the tacticals I have from them are top notch
I got this A.G. Russell lockback in this weekend. I honestly don’t know why I bought a used knife, that’s not like me. I guess I haven’t seen one of these come up for sale in such a long time, I thought I would jump on it. The handles are Chinese Quince Burlwood. They darkened nicely with about 3 applications of mineral oil. The handles have a few cracks that have been nicely glued and stabilized. The blade is ATS-34 and it has been resharpened and the grind lines are a bit off. The blade also wobbles a bit, but that doesn’t bother me, it doesn’t affect the performance in the least. I resharpened the blade to make it razor sharp and left the lines as they are. Not sure if I will put this in my rotation or try and sell it. My experience selling used knives has not been good. But since it is used, I wouldn’t have any qualms with using it. It feels really great in hand and is very light.

Very nice Mark! ::tu:: I can certainly see why you would buy this one, issues or not. I'm like you in that regard, if the knife works and looks good, I overlook anything that might not be perfect. ::nod:: Great find, enjoy it! 8)

Mark, Perhaps I should clarify a bit about my SOG. The knife had no defects. It is a solid, well made knife. My reservations about it are strictly personal coming down to the highly subjective aspect of hand feel. I would have preferred a round or thicker handle, with a bit more weight to the blade. Sort of like favoring a particular tennis racket or golf club. Some just fit an individual better than others. No fault on the part of the brand.

Garry, I probably misread it. I have not seen any reviews of SOG fixed blades. Is this made in Taiwan or Japan or somewhere else? I know SOG has knives made in a lot of different places. Don’t know if there is a discernible difference in quality for knives made in different countries or not?

This one was made in Taiwan. Taiwan makes excellent production knives. Many CS knives are made there which I admire very much. Again, the overall quality of the SOG is excellent.
