Anton Wingen Jr knives
Anyone have any information on an Anton Wingen Jr Othello stag handle fixed blade knife? I bought 3 knives online and 1 is as stated. I know nothing about that brand. How old would the knife be? Any idea of it's value and are they quality knives?

They are sweet knives, but you would have to post a picture because condition is everything.
Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

Re: Anton Wingen Jr knives
Knife could be made as recently as the 1990's. In my experience these knives are not as well made as American made fixed blades like the older Remington, KA-BAR, Case and the like and accordingly they have less value.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Re: Anton Wingen Jr knives
I love Anton Wingen knives. They are very well made knives and they usually have some very nice stag on them. I've had one or two of their folders which are a little harder to come by and are made just as well as their fixed blades.
In fact, I was at a gun show today and picked up another Anton Wingen fixed blade. It has nice stag on it, but a little bit of pitting on the mark side tang. I'll get some pictures and post it in the next day or two.

If you collect German cutlery Anton Wingen Jr. is one of the more collectible brands. Note that "collectible" does not equate to 'best made'. I have owned a few Wingen knives but have never used one so i don't know how well they sharpen or edge hold.

Re: Anton Wingen Jr knives
Here is an example of an Anton Wingen Jr. fixed blade. This one I picked up 15 years ago or so and it was really rusty and crusty but wet or dry paper and elbow grease made a pretty good looking knife of it. I re-handled it with a chunk of walnut from a broken Browning shotgun stock because I'm not a fan of fat knife handles or dirty stag. I would entertain ideas on how to clean up that old handle to re-use it. This Anton Winger Jr. knife is, I believe, a very well made knife and should have a lot of work left in it.

I think they used pretty quality Stag.

They have the same type of pommel nut used by Marble's.

Here is my most recent A. Wingen Othello knife. Just couple quick pics from the shop. I haven't had time to clean it yet, I have only had it for a few days.

Here are a couple of AW knives including an OTF gravity knife that was given to me by the curator of the Salem(Mass)Witch Museum.Workers found it hidden inside a wall when they were doing renovations there. I wonder what stories that one could tell! No blood on it so I don't think it was a murder weapon.
