Thanks for this great bit of advice concerning the QR oil pen. A gravity pen rather than a squeeze applicator.It works, makes me feel like a bull in a china shop.

Only thing you need to remember is to turn the tip back upwards after applying just 1 or 2 drops, because if you're watching the oil drip into the pivot, you forget you're holding the pen downwards and it will continue to drip all over the place. Sorry to have hi-jacked your OP into a discussion on Q.R. oil, it wasn't my intent!

I've been giving them knives for several years, birthdays and Christmas and any other occasion I can. This said they need to learn how to take care of their "users". I want to build a "kit" of knife care items for each of them so they can learn. I've obtained several NOS Old Cutler Muskrat knives that won't cut hot butter and will provide a fresh place to start to learn knife sharpening without destroying a more valuable knife. I thought I would polish one bolster with some Mother's Mag to show the difference it can make, include the Mothers in the kit, maybe a tube of Quick Release, some sort of sharpening system, maybe a whet rock with some instructions, etc. Box it up in some nice durable, reusable container and present one to each of them.
All that said, I'm open to suggestions on what to include in a knife care kit such as I describer.

Madmarco, got an envelope from Latama this morning, it contained a gravity pen of QR! Thanks for your help in this. Probably don't even know what I'd be looking at. But this little gesture makes me feel good about the Latama Cutlery Company. A business card was enclosed from Mr. Walt Halucha. Thank you Mr. Halucha.
because I intend to purchase an expensive knife from them, so it's good to know I'll be dealing with a reputable company. The tube in your pic appears to be the same old one, but perhaps it's made of stronger material. He did say, " we're WORKING ON a sturdier applicator", so yours is likely still the old style, but after doing a comparison(if you have the old broken tube)of the 2, if you notice any differences please post them. Remember when you use your new pen to NOT squeeze it, which isn't easy since the natural reaction IS to squeeze it, 
just hold it tip-down and let the oil drip out. Gentle taps on the bottom of the pen will help the oil come out, and it won't crush the plastic and cause breaks. Happy to help! Ryan! Did you ever receive your oil pen from Latama?
