Brenda and I took a drive out to Skyline Drive yesterday, hiked the Elkwallow and Trace trails to the tune of about 5 1/4 miles. Traffic getting there around 10:00 wasn't awful, but it was backed up considerably for those trying to get in at 3:00. It was a gorgeous day.

Great outdoor pictures from so many different places!
Here are two young bucks butting heads over something. The rut doesn't start until late December so they are just "playing around" I suppose.

We seldom get pictures of mature bucks until the rut is under way.

Colonel 26, Very pleased to see you have a donkey. For many years I have contributed to Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue, the largest donkey rescue in the U.S.

The gentleman and his family who operate this organization do tremendous, selfless work. Besides providing for them medically, which they often require due to abuse and neglect, they are evaluated for their suitability for adoption. I mention this on the chance you may sometime wish to acquire another donkey.

Last January I sitting in my stand when a couple of smaller bucks went at it. Neither was big enough to take, so I just watched. They butted heads for what seemed like 10 minutes - with a doe running around in the background. I finally thought "you know, I should be filming this". Of course about the time I got my cell phone out they took off.

Very good TF I hit the wood with the grandkids for youth day deer hunt had a great day but no deer. They carried a Marlin mod 30cs lever and a Savage mod 110 bolt both in 30-30's.

We had about 6 guys and a gal out muzzleloader hunting this morning until about Noon. Then I took an ATV ride up the mountain to check out the changing leaves and a couple hunting huts. I think the leaves are about peak in Western Maryland, just wish the sky was bluer today. Grabbed lunch from CFA.

1967redrider, that is some fantastic scenery when viewed by an ol' flatwoods redneck. We've got a few hills but nothing like that. The highest hill in Florida is only 345'.
My contributions to the Outdoorsman Thread today are a few of shots from our farm and one from the lease property.

This Rye Grain patch is 7 days old, planted 10/17. Should be doing well by Thanksgiving, opening day.

Looking from a 90 degree woods corner back northwest across the food plot towards the shooting house.

We had a bit of weather again today, those clouds dropped 1.4" of rain this afternoon.

Saw this feller resting in the pines. As I walked back he slithered away.

Got Miss Joy to ride with me to the lease this morning. Those planted pines are about 10 years old and it is thick, thick thick! I have a stand by an old abandoned clay pit that affords a better view where you can get a look at Bambi now and then.

The Fall flowers are still doing their thing!

Archery season started today and will go through the day before Thanksgiving when rifle season starts. Han't messed with a stick and string in 25 years. Treefarmer

Thank you neighbor. I grew up with donkeys. We raised mules out of Belgian mares and a Mammoth Jack. Pa kept a couple of Jennets too to raise more Jack stock.

This one is Annie. She’s a spoiled baby and thinks the goats are beneath her at this point. lol. The looks she gives them are hilarious.

Colonel, a lot of folks around our part of the world keep donkeys with their cows for coyote control. When we had cows, Miss Joy noticed several times our horses would follow a coyote as it crossed one of the pastures.

We have two Great Pyrenees in with the goats that are absolutely devastating on predators. Annie should help too. Donkeys won’t just follow coyotes, I’ve known them to run across the field for the chance to kill a coyote or stray dogs in the field.

But her main job is getting petted and spoiled by Valerie! This is Valerie’s donkey. Happy wife, happy life!

All this about the donkeys is most interesting, i had no idea that they would guard against wild dogs and coyote's, this is why this is such a good place of learning.

They don't call them bad asses for nothing, there was a video on the net a few years ago of one stomping a mountain lion to death. Don't know it's still around or not.

Good to see all my Outdoorsmen still out and about in the great outdoors. Been off-site for awhile with life. My memory is still sharp so I still remember all by first name but been so long, too many names to list.
That said, hope all of you and yours are well.
