Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
I just remembered, there's a guy locally who is using a display built identically (I originally thought True Value kitchen cutlery was what was on it; but it may have been Keen Kutter) in a comics shop (which, in my childhood, was a tack store, where I bought most of my "horse" stuff, Tractor Supply put them out of business, when two opened up between 2006-8 in my immediate area) for action figures he's selling. Gonna see if he still has it (I haven't been to this store in a couple of years, which was just months after he opened, but he seems to be doing rather well, basically because he's the only comics/collectibles shop in town).
If I find a place to put it, I think I'll stop by and see if he still has it and is willing to sell it. I've been visiting a ton of low-traffic small businesses since COVID started. And, it is one thing I plan to continue once this stuff is over.

Nice knife - I'm a big fan of that pattern. Yours is probably not older than the mid 1950s and the handles are probably made of a plastic called Fostarene.TPK wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 7:09 pm Hello Schraders,
The first knife from my weekend spending spree showed up today. It's an old Schrade Walden 808. The Tang stamp is pretty worn and hard to read. Especially the "Walden" is hard to read. But it reads...,
SCHRADE
WALDEN
NY USA
On the reverse side "808"
David, "rustyoldknife" was kind enough to send me some pictures of Schrade Tang stamps so that I can date this knife between 1948 and 1973.Thanks for your help in that David!
![]()
It was very crudy & had very little snap but 20-30 min. of cleaning & oiling the joints & springs & I am now the proud owner of a nice 808 HOK.The whole knife cleaned up real well. Blades are worn but have no wobble & the scales are in great condition. They don't appear to be bone or derlin.
The snap is not great but it did come back enough to make me very happy about my purchase. Here are some before and after pictures. First off, 5 before pictures. Followed by 5 after pictures.

Not an old Schrade but certainly a dandy. It's up on Ebay. The sheath is not original.

I am not a collector of Old Timers. This one looked old, gunk on the bolsters from being in the leather. Seems to be a lot of interest on eBay. Put a correction on my description.

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
Looks great! And that's no junker, either! That's one of the best 8OTs I have seen. My Granddad gave me one in which the clip blade had been snapped off at the tang. Need to get around to re-doing it. Albeit, Swinden really is probably gonna be a headache.
I've almost ruled out buying lots due to the fact most come with a ton of China-made POS knives and those with no snap. Basically, stuff you're stuck with until the POS exchange. And then again, I've got a lot coming with 17 in it that cost me $30, mostly just for a Russell Barlow. But, there's a lot of great-quality NOT CHINESE MADE knives in it. Only three are, and that's a pretty low ratio. The rest are American (or European made) traditionals, a lot having been made before 1950. Some will need rehandling, however.

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
It's here.
My Schrade 708 Scout knife.
The pitting above the 708 is the worst spot on the whole knife. Great F&F. Great snap. The blades are sharp but it appears to never have been sharpend to me. Except for a minimum amount of pitting, it seems to be in near mint condition.
One of my all time best eBay finds.
Wrote a real short Schrade poem earlier. Will post it later in the appropriate thread.

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
Nice knife Tom!
I am very grateful to have found this little guy. Schrade cut 8563 jr cattle knife at 3 3/8”. These have been on my radar a long time and do not show up often, especially in this condition.
It only has one minor little issue, the very tip of the sheepsfoot it bent a little. Other than that it’s about as nice as I could ask for, and extremely well built as typical for a schrade cut. The factory edges are still present.

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
I saw this one listed on ebay for $15 dollars. It crossed my mind to offer $10 and see what would happen but didn't. Then I got an message from the seller that he saw I had looked at the knife and that he would offer it for $10. I accepted and it wound up $15 and some change shipped. I think it has the 1946-1973 tang stamp.
