Did I miss something
I really thought this was the BEST knife and knife related web site till I logged on today and never saw a knife from any AAPK Store on the scrolling billboard all I saw was what looked like a table at your local Flea Market, Until today I would have bet the farm on this being the BEST knife site on the web, now I dont know, but do think That CRAP needs to go !!!!

Re: Did I miss something
I agree the non knife stuff needs to go ASAP.
I want to start a store here soon. ...... AND the coveted first few spots will be taken over by some $2.00 coins
these coins, rocks etc. need to be removed now. I love to log on and see Jims nice old CASE XX scroll by or a re-worked MM special.
I know this guy ment well but this is no place for non-knife stuff

Re: Did I miss something
I have to admit that I was also disappointed to see rocks, foreign currency, brass buttons and cigar boxes scroll by on the banner. I enjoy looking at knives or knife related items, not that kind of stuff. IMO, it looks like flea market stuff and has no business on ALL ABOUT POCKET KNIVES, web site. What's going to come next, Barbie and Cabbage Patch Dolls? If it isn't knives or knife related, it shouldn't be on here. I look at this site 10-20 times a day and I enjoy looking at every knife pictured, new or vintage. Let's not forget what this site is all about before this gets out of hand.

I'm on it fellas. Current programming automatically puts the last 10 items placed for sale up there. I'm in process of making the necessary modifications to keep the non-knife stuff off the conveyor and out of the main store area.

Re: Did I miss something
Personally I don't mind the cigar boxes (nor the occasional good cigar that comes in them),
as I can see how these items are related. I have many cigar boxes full of knives. What puzzles me is buttons & coins, I don't see how they are related. Did I miss something?
One day I logged on and saw the same knife scrolling across the top repeatedly. I clicked on them & saw that it was multiple listings of the same knife. I think that is OK, it just looked like the banner was stuck on one knife until I looked into the store.
I appreciate your effort Bryan to resolve this whole issue, but I am cognizant of the fact that it is your site & you can run it any darn way you see fit! However, I do appreciate it when it looks like a knife site & not a flea market.
Thanks again Bryan for all the effort & work you put into AAPK. It is (IMHO) the finest & friendliest knife site on the net!

Re: Did I miss something
Actually it is quite amusing to watch how folks manipulate the top bar of items. Some put oversized items, just so they can claim the space usually allocated to 2-4 normal sized pictures; some will re-insert items just to get them back in the scroll.
It is very irritating to me having to wait 4-5 seconds for every page to load now that it is having to put the items up top before I can scroll down on any given page. But I understand the benefit of having these items advertised here.
Much like everything else, just something for the manipulators to manipulate. I think I will get a knife made with my website advertisement; then upload a 10MB picture every day that scrolls for 30 seconds every lap

Re: Did I miss something
Funny you claim there are manipulators here Mike. I only see the same old 8-9 knives in your AAPK store, but of course you do have your direct link to your site. I don't see you listing any new knives on here, so's kidding who? Some people have nothing better to do but complain about their competitors even if they have to fabricate it. You apparently want to hijack this thread from what's appropriate to sell on here, to complaining about any competitors legitimate stores who sell knives on this site.

Re: Did I miss something
I manage to get in discussions that put me on the wrong side of the majority and since my views are hardly ever the popular ones I try to keep my opinions to myself.......but on this subject I would like to put my 2 cents in. What's being discussed isn't a new thing but it has become very obvious lately because of the magnitude of non-knife items. For what it's worth I think it should be only knife and knife related products. OBVIOUS knife related products. I store a knife in my jeans everyday but I don't think anyone wants me selling my "knife storage" jeans on AAPK.....I know I wouldn't.
As for the size of pictures, that has never crossed my mind. I for one like really good pictures that actually SHOW the knife. I don't like to be guessing at what I'm not seeing. I'm on dial-up and it super slow and I haven't had any issues with it slowing things down. So I don't really understand that comment unless it has a deeper meaning.
Jim as far as your pics......TOP NOTCH every time!! I've bought a lot of knives from Jim and will buy more. Now that I know him like I do, I wouldn't even need a picture as he would tell me the truth. I think good pictures sell good knives. Nothing to hide when the pics and prices are good. Thumbs down on non-knife related items though in AAPK stores.

Re: Did I miss something
Jim, you are a dandy for sure. I didn't pay close enough attention to the current huge pictures, but have discovered why you took such offense. Sorry if that got your feathers ruffled, that was not my intention. If there is something I have "fabricated", why don't you just PM or email me and we will resolve that immediately.
As to my store, it was something I started testing with a few months ago and just got so busy I haven't been able to put it into full production. But, my support for AAPK is on a monthly subscription basis and has nothing to do with what was sold. One of my goals was to leave the AAPK store market for the guys that wanted this to be their sole outlet; and not compete directly with my friends here. Mainly because I source some items that these dealers sell here to begin with. But it occured to me after I got started that I would need to limit my inventory to items that were in nobody else's store.
My comments were something I had talked to Bryan about when he first tested with the scrolling store. I don't know if it is my browser or what; but I cannot scroll down the page until the scroll bar loads and starts moving. It is not the speed of my connection as I am on dsl. But in the past, there have been huge pictures that had to load; banners that didn't even have a products pictured that had to load; etc. I had told Bryan previously that that was advertising space other forums charged dearly for; and there would be those that took every advantage of it. Again, I understand the benefit although I have never placed a product in the scroll. I also understand that it is generally well accepted. This forum does include "comments" and I was just commenting on my issues with the scrolling bar; which admittedly was not entirely related to the non-knife related products. I will try much harder in the future to offer no variance to the pre-mentioned topics specifically.
Here I go again, but I wish different items showed up each different page you went to; that way you didn't have to see the same knives at any given point in time. I click on the scrollbar probably more than the average member and really like looking at the store items; just have these couple of minor issues with it.
