Look at this sellers description of this knife on ebay. How many things does he have wrong ? Boy this one is really funny!!!

I just posted this at Bladeforums too...but there is nothing "wrong" with the knife itself - it is authentic. It has obviously been sharpened even tough he says it has not been.

Yeah, that's a real nice unsharpened stag handled stockman...

I see it's up to over $60 with six bids and still three days to go on the auction. Is that about right for that pattern in that condition? I wonder if savvy collectors are bidding, notwithstanding the errors in the listing, or if they're being taken in.

Speaking of ebay, this auction's got me scratching my head:

I realize the 36OT is more rare than the 34OT, and the fact that it has a punchblade is pretty cool, but it's already over $100 with 24 bids and the auction's not over. Looks like two guys got into a bidding war -- maybe their emotions got the best of them?

Well the wrong descriptions never surprise me since the average estate seller or antique dealer is going to be cluelss about patterns, handles, etc.

And that Old Timer....amazing. I have seen beautiful 1940's era bone handled Schrade knives in near mint condition sell for a lot less than that knife is up to now.

Could be the camera angle, but the master blade looks like the tip may have been broken off and reground. Sure looks like a short master blade for such a long handle. I have a 34OT stockman that this happened to... that's why the look of this blade caught my eye. I could be wrong though.

The Schrade... the 36OT is a desirable pattern, but that seems a little high. But I think the explanation is this: The seller for many years worked with/for R Werner, a well known knife guy, both of them very honorable. Quick took over the business when Werner died. He tends to get the best price for his knives because of all the loyal buyers that have done business with he and Werner for many, many years. You cannot over estimate the value of reputation in the knife biz.

The two bidders dueling over this knife: I've sold to both of them. They are free-spending when it comes to recent issue Schrades.

Gr8, you are right about Greg Quick. Thats like 80 bucks or so over valued, and you are right again, we're witnessing a couple of "unit" measuring, "gotsta hav-its" and they are making Greg a happy boy

, I bet he's scratching his head too. It's sad too, I have seen Greg take in the shorts on way more than one knife, for example, a Schatt F&W congress went for 56 bucks

. I wrote him a consolation (sp?) letter after that one. I have a couple of 36OT's, and at that price, I'll priority mail them for free.
As for the Case, looks auth to me, he could've pasted the wrong description in the ad. Way to keep your eyes open nevertheless.

That's very interesting, thanks for the background on Greg Quick. I didn't know anything about him but he's been one of my favorite ebay sellers for a while now, for a variety of reasons. I'm very glad to hear his good name is so wide spread.

Knifeaholic is right, I didn't mean to insinuate that there was anything wrong with the knife(its authentic), just the description. Knives are often given the wrong description on ebay and thats nothing new. But some of them still make me laugh. I guess in this day and time its good to be able to laugh, or at least I hope it is.

I bought 2 36OT at a local feed store for $21.95. I think they had one or two left. Maybe I should check & see if they are still there
