Stone handled kitchen knives

Post by Redrummd »

Here are a couple of pictures of a kitchen knife set I did recently. I am doing two 6 knife sets for my son-in-laws for Christmas using Viking Knives (Gude) from Germany. The stone used is Leopard Skin jasper from Mexico.

My wifey puts all knives whe uses in the dish-washer.

Would your stone handles hold up to that ?

I would say that the stone handled knives are not dishwasher safe. They would bang around and potentially chip plus if water found a way to get behind the scales they would eventually come loose. When I need to remove them I put them into a pan of cold water and bring it to a boil until the adhesive weakens. I use loctite 324 and 325 which are designed to weaken for removal at about the point of boiling water.

Come on now Ken, don't you think you could wash a knife or two by hand yourself?

What's the matter, are you afraid to let the Mrs. see you with your hands in the dishwater?

Surely she won't make you do ALL those dishes! ::paranoid:: ::paranoid:: ::paranoid::

dudleythetogi - Greg,

Thank you for the compliment on my stonework. I do appreciate the kind words. I am pretty busy with the irons already in the fire but if things ever get slow I may just put a few posts up on that site too.

Thanks again...
