Camillus 72 Clones

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Very nice, you ought to name it "Hens Teeth", that's about how often you see the 9494, or it is for me1

Added a few more to my Camillus 72 Clone collection last week.

First two are made by Whitetail Cuttlery, which under my research is a Brand that was produced for Frost Cuttlery. Some were made in Pakistan and some were made in China. If they have a shield it has a stamped deer head with antlers. The Blades do not have a tang stamp, or etch, it is a stamp on the blade that feels like a paint or ink on the blade. It can wear off. The black handles are a black composite with a shield, and I received it without a box. The Faux Pearl handle does not have a shield, I received with a box that has a model number of PR7226.

The other I purchased is a Camillus 1047 with the BSA Federal style shield with black composite handles with no cracks and are tight. It did have some light surface rust, but blades are tight with no wobble and good walk and talk. I did have to do some cleaning and oiling of the blades. It has the long line script tang stamp which dates it in the 1960-76 range.

Wow Papa Bones, you got a hat trick with those three. And all three very clean and in wonderful shape. I had not seen that faux pearl handle one before. You are accumulating quite a few there. And yes the Orvis was one sold by the Fishing outfitters. Per Jerry there were 4 different knife models made. Thank to you and congratulations on your acquisitions. ::tu:: ::tu:: ::handshake::

Got a couple today. See the story over on the mail thread. The first a Whitetail cutlery 72 clone in decent shape and reasonable quality. The 2nd a York Cutlery and it is a fabulous knife. Great fit and finish, wonderful handles , typical German craftsmanship. This is the first York I have seen come up for sale. Thanks for looking. ::handshake::

Very Nice Additions Floyd.

I got this one in yesterday. A Camillus 1047 white handle with round BSA shield. Although it has the long line script tang stamp which most Camillus references in 1960-76 range, The Boy Scout Knives reference says the white handle was only offered 1980-84. This one has tarnish and stains on the blades but are tight with great snap. I believe with a little work it will clean up nicely on the blades.
