Long shot - Winchester ?

I know New England knives pretty well but that pattern as others suggested looks like Kabar or Case or ??? - Not guesses and just a comment.. You sure the location is New England ?? :) ... Only 6 states up here and most knives were either CT or MA - and I only mention it because many think NY is also New England but it is not...

Not a Robeson.
I think it looks a bit like a GEC #14 Boy's Knife, but it is older than GEC.

No it is not as old as the original Tidioute brand. Don't let my GEC reference mislead you. I'm just saying it reminds me of the recent GEc #14 pattern, similar size & shape but no historical connection.

No more guesses so time for a clue:
even when you know the tang markings you still might not be 100% sure of the manufacturer. This is a 'vintage' USA knife.
Now surely the experienced collectors here will make some educated guesses.
