Our dog is very sick.

There are times in each of our lives that rain falls, hard times come and it helps to reach out to our friends and to our God for a little support. This is the place to express those needs, concerns and situations so others in the AAPK family can keep you in their prayers.

So so Ken. She has lost some weight. I think mostly muscle because she also seems to be slowly getting weaker. She is 11 yrs. old going on 12 now. We do what we can but in the end we are just buying some time I guess. Maybe a year, maybe less. ::shrug::

A little posative news. :D

Angle's sugar has been coming down slooooowly over the last couple of weeks. Today it was down to 348. It should be under 200 but considering that it was over 600 a few weeks ago we are glad that the insulin is finally starting to help. ::tu::

Of course my wife does all the work with measuring her sugar several times a day, increasing her insulin, taking her to the vet's (about an hours drive one way) ect. ect. ect.

Anyways, her sugar is coming down. Thanks for your concern and prayers everybody. ::handshake:: ::tu:: :D

Some good & some bad news.

The good news is we finally got Angle's sugar to stay under 200. ::tu::

The bad news is, in the mean time, she has gone blind. ::td:: ::facepalm::

Tom, I'm sorry to hear the latest news, on Angel. The blood sugar, below 200, is a very good thing and dogs seem to adapt well to their family. My parents had a dog that went blind with diabetes and she was just as loving as she ever was. Prayers for her continued stabilization of her blood sugar.

Thanks for the update, Tom, and sorry to hear about your pup's sight. But it sounds like her main health issue is getting better. ::tu::

Very sorry to learn about Angel losing her sight. Hope her other health issues continue to improve. Dogs have such great senses of smell and hearing, they seem able to compensate and adapt quicker than humans. Just keep loving her.

Tom, there are some amazing video’s of blind Golden Retrievers online. My wife showed me these a few weeks back. Our Golden, named Scout, had a cataract that suddenly developed, for a 3 year old dog, it’s very unusual. She has a disease that can and probably will blind her eventually. I can understand some of what you are experiencing. After seeing these GR’s and how they have adapted, I realized that this won’t be as hard on her as it will be on us. Dogs can adapt amazingly well.
Here is a link to one article, but you can Google it and find videos. https://www.boredpanda.com/jake-addie-g ... gn=organic
I hope this gives you some comfort. I know our relationship with our dogs is a special bond and it hurts us more than them.

We had a chocolate Lab on the farm, Brody, and she went blind around age 10. Didn't slow her down much, she was like a shadow to my mom. Occasionally she would walk into something but she was always happy.

Last update folks. ::facepalm::

Our dog Angel passed away shortly after 7 p.m. ::tear::

Silvia took real good care of her and was able to extend her time her on earth with us an extra 7 1/2 months. She was a loving soul & family member for over 11 years now. She was born in our living room and she died in our kitchen. We are all just sitting around crying right now as I guess is normal. We will carry her into the barn for tonight & I'll have to bury her tomarrow after I get home from work so there will be some more crying tomarrow I'm sure. ::tear::

Thanks for praying for her. ::handshake:: The good lord gave her to us for another good 1/2 year. ::tu::

Now there's another Angle in heaven. ::tear::

Really sorry to read this Tom. Your pup was lucky to have both of you and the love and care you provided her to keep her comfortable and extend her life a little bit longer.

Tom, I'm so sorry to hear the news of Angel. Our pets are every bit family as our human counterparts. She was lucky to have such a loving home. Hope you can rejoice in the good times with her.
