I didn't/don't question the correctness of the knife...as it's not what I accumulate, and I don't know them like you folks.
However, I don't think the jigging is worn, but doctored...as that would be a lot of spot wear for a knife that looks relatively unused. But, JMO.
Anyway, a good exercise, and I respect the opinions posted by all of you, and consider it an ongoing learning experience.

Edited to add: If any of you have Ritchie and Stewart's Guide, look at the picture of the 6250 in the Case Appendix (in the 4th edition it is pg. 613) in the back. Note the fairly consistent E to W jigging on the entire knife, as compared to the knife in question, especially near the shield.
I have looked at some jigging at the Elephant Toe site...and some is similar, but seems to be more near the end of the jigging pattern.
Just as some added food for thought. As always, JMO.
