2020 GEC#74 Mustang Run
Today 8/26/2020 I spotted #74 triple line bolsters on the GEC production pictures. It is official ! "Northfield Mustang" 3 7/8" closed Trapper ----- The "Things to Ponder" clues tipped me off weeks ago. That clue was a 100+ year old painting of a "HIND LEGS" standing horse with an "EMPTY" saddle. A rattle snake is in that painting. I still believe a two bladed Saddle Trapper run will follow the #74 Mustangs. (not confirmed). "PLEASE POST YOUR GEC#74 KNIFE PHOTOS !"

How did the riderless horse rearing on his hind legs and a rattle snake lead your thinking to a #74 two blade knife ?

I see nothing but 35 knives "in production" pics on the GEC website, and no mention of any 74 or anything after the 35 Beer and Sausage knives. Maybe I just can't find it, but I checked all the tabs I usually do. Are you sure the 74 run is "official"?

Here's the picture in question copied from the GEC "What's Happening" page. The caption below the picture states: "Lined bolsters for the #74 Northfield UN-X-LD, Mustang."Iowaboy wrote: ↑Sat Aug 29, 2020 6:34 pm I see nothing but 35 knives "in production" pics on the GEC website, and no mention of any 74 or anything after the 35 Beer and Sausage knives. I see it now, I forgot you had to click and expand the picture to see the caption on the "what's happening" page.
I was not familiar with the 74 Mustang but I have viewed some older ones on the web and I definitely want one!
Thanks for the additional info.

I am so happy , you asked that question. That horse has a saddle. The GEC#74 Saddleback Trapper is a two blade knife.kootenay joe wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2020 2:15 am How did the riderless horse rearing on his hind legs and a rattle snake lead your thinking to a #74 two blade knife ?

I’m hoping to get a 74 in ironwood and possibly the jig bone, I wonder what color GEC will choose

A mustang does no have a saddle unless it is being broken in. I believe a Saddle Tapper two blade GEC#74 200 pieces of each choice will be produce. "Things to Ponder ????" CLUE Looks like a Saddle Trapper is coming to me.

The wood slabs look like they will be very attractive. Anyone know what the wood is ?

Kootenay Joe, GEC is calling it Arizona Ironwood. Not sure how it differs from what is generally referred to as just Ironwood. But I agree, it does look good. I also think the black plum looks fantastic, just waiting to see how the jigging looks in the end.

Re: 2020 GEC#74 Mustang Run
I think i read that Arizona Ironwood and Ironwood are the same, that it is harvested by licence in Arizona, i reckon Arizona Ironwood is a marketing ploy to keep the made in America theme more appealing. But that is just my opinion.

I agree, desert ironwood range extends from the southwest corner of the states, down into Mexico. I would guess GEC sources from a supplier in Arizona?

The Desert Ironwood will look great when finished. And there is a lot of 'individuality' in the pieces, no two look exactly the same. I think i might have to get one just for the wood handles.

Thanks for that, good to see where it comes from on a map. As my dad used to say, the more you learn the more you know.Matt_WY wrote: ↑Tue Oct 20, 2020 2:46 pmI agree, desert ironwood range extends from the southwest corner of the states, down into Mexico. I've never cared too much for this type of pattern but man, those sure do look nice. Can't wait to see what the AAPK knife looks like.
