what is the rarest case knife you have??

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Probably one of the rarest in my collection. Case Springville sunfish / toenail knife. Case only operated in the Springville, NY plant for a year or two after the fire destroyed their Little Valley plant in 1912. So, this knife would date between 1912 and 1914.

Nice tadpole. The only small Case pattern I really like. ::tu::

Tom, keep an eye out on eBay. Tadpoles of various ages and handle materials come up for sale there fairly often, in varying condition and prices.

Hi Smitty & Ken,

The main problem is not finding them, the main problem is the price of them. A nice one would cost $100 or more. That's about twice of what I can get away with and four times what I can really afford.
But..., if I ever find a nice one for $50 I'll be all over it.

Glad to help. But be advised....Keep some sanitary wipes around your keyboard. Once you start looking at all the goodies he has, you may have to clean up drool off your desk. ::super_happy::

Not WR case but Case Bros, Very few real Tortoise shell Case Bros Toenails Exist. I have seen only a handful. I believe this to be old and original. However I fully expect the handles to degrade eventually...

Here is also a rare 6251 WR CASE (UNFORTUNATELY, I NO LONGER HAVE THIS ONE)

One last knife not actually made by WR Case, Most likely made in New Jersey by Valley Forge.

It has a lot of markings only seen on this knife. it has the marking "WR CASE AND SONS BRADFORD PENNA " Don't see Penna on too many knives

pattern 63045

Obvious washed out "honey" bone which wasn't really made on purpose just loses color over time. Jigging is VF.

Thanks for showing those. They’re wonderful old survivors, and definitely meet the “rare” criteria. ::tu::

I'm pretty certain the 63045 was made by Valley Forge. I have seen several pliers knives marked Valley Forge that look identical to the Case 63045 pliers knife. It is also my belief that the "Penna" marking indicates the knife was made by another manufacturer for Case on contract.

Thanks for sharing the rare old knives. ::tu::

Awesome! I love old multipurpose knives. I wonder where Camillus sourced the pliers when they did the remake of this one in the '80s or '90s?
