Maybe i have family roots from that part of the world that i do not know about!!!
Well in my part of the world we’re mostly Scotch Irish. We got kicked out of northern England and Southern Scotland, sent to Northern Ireland, and they didn’t like us there either, so we got to the colonies, and the English on the seaboard didn’t like us and we moved to the hills and hollers.
Maybe the families crossed paths along the way. We wen west and y’all went east.
My family originally also came here from Ireland, good old Irish catholic stock. So we well maybe related.
Waring's were actually Normans who settled in Ireland after William the Conqueror. Then Canada then the US.
But I don't care as long as the food is good.

I came across some chicory when out and about this morning. The roots and leaves of this plant have numerous purported health benefits, has anyone ever partaken? Buying a bottle from the shelf at GNC doesn't count. It has also been used as a coffee substitute.
Still available, in the South at least. I’ve not tried the 100% chicory but the blend is pretty good. Community Coffee is our favorite - family owned and based in Baton Rouge.

Did a bunch of driveway repairs and ditch digging at the farm today, man I'm beat. Had this trio with me; Geo. Schrade Bridgeport CONN Presto, RR lady leg and good ol' Rocky. The lady leg came in handy after the work was done.

Yep, at the farm Rocky is right there by my right hand. I used him yesterday to pick some cabbages, Saturday to cut some peaches.

Some more interesting varmints around the new house in Parker Co.
The wife and I arrived back home this week and saw this mama tarantula in the window sill next to the door with all her babies on her back. I left her alone, and came back a few hours later and she was still sitting there. I grabbed a flyswatter and gently nudged her across the porch and onto the grass.
And then my friend / neighbor texted yesterday evening and said he killed a Diamondback rattler. He bought it over to my house and we parted him from his head. Just a tick under 6 feet long and a girth of 9.5 inches. I am 6' 2" shown holding it - minus it's head. Second one this size killed around here this week. After it was skinned and stretched it measured 6 and a half feet.

The Air Force sent me on a trip to Oklahoma some years back.
There was a Rattlesnake Roundup in town while we were there.
Of course had to go check it out. There was a big ol' ring with a plexiglass wall about 4' high with several hundred, I guess, rattlers in it. Guys walking around in there provoking the snakes to strike. Most of the snakes seemed reluctant--giving credence to the statement that snakes would rather slither off on their merry way rather than strike.
There was a tent set up serving rattlesnake meat. I got in line, albeit a long one that started outside the tent. I was gonna try me some rattlesnake meat! Finally got inside, the smell of old grease hanging thick in the air; they were frying the meat. I was able to see what folks had on their plates. For a buck they were getting a fried piece of snake about an inch and a half long. Watching them trying to get what little meat there was between all the ribs seemed like a real chore.
Still had a long line to wait, so not wanting to deal with the smell of the grease, and not too keen on spending 45 minutes to dig out a teaspoon full of meat, I stepped out and didn't bother.
I would have liked to try it, though.

That my friend is one big snake, a nasty looking critter. I have dispatched a few snakes in my time, and it still makes my skin crawl even handling a dead one, just don't like 'em. But fantastic pictures, thanks for posting.
Rattlesnakes are actually pretty rare around here. My friend who killed it said this is the first rattlesnake he has seen around our houses, and he has lived in his current house for 18 years. He has a deer lease out in Junction, and he sees them regularly out there. So he is used to dealing with them, but this is the largest one he has ever killed. It had two rabbits in it when he skinned it.
They just bulldozed some trees near where he found this one. New subdivision going in . Some other neighbors killed one roughly the same size earlier in the week. We are assuming they were displaced by the bulldozing - maybe they ran over a snake den?
