Berryb's group arrived today. The USPS up in Charleston must think mine are a little too Hazmat, as according the tracking updates, they're taking a sweet time getting to where they need to go, despite having been shipped out by me the same day he shipped his lot out to me. Took two days just to get from my post office to Charleston (regional facility for my area)--when it takes less than 5 hours for it to reach my PO from Charleston every morning. When they don't send it to a post office in the middle of nowhere between Charleston and Bluefield.
Corkscrew. I don't drink, but I find these things pretty handy to get knots in thinner cordage out. It's made quite well. A lot better than the plastic-frame ones that came in TSA lots, and are currently in my toolbox.
Outdoor Edge Razor-Lite EDC 3.5". I've seen these in the knife and sporting goods sections of a lot of stores I've been in, and have been pretty curious. Hunters around here really seem to like them, and speak highly of them. I'm the kind of guy that says a Buck 110 is unmatched in value and performance for all big cutting jobs, including deer hunting. The blades are replaceable, like a scalpel/Havalon type knife or a utility knife. At $10 for 6, or $34 for 24, the replacement blades (which slot into the spine, and held in by a button lock on the handle) are quite inexpensive. They are 420J2, meaning they don't hold an edge very well, but I do intend to really try this one out. I've got a 6-pack of blades on order, and have sort of sharpened the existing blade.
I don't trust plastic clips and find them out-of-date, but according to the warranty, if you break a clip, they are covered and the company will send you a new one. The serrated nub at the tip should grip the pocket a bit better.
Protocol multitool w/sheath. I have owned two tools (Tuesday Morning had them so cheap they were hard to pass up) from this brand, and found them pretty much POS. This one, on the other hand, is actually usable, unlike those others, and most notably, has a properly formed saw blade which is as rare as hen's teeth in the cheap MT world. It's a big, sturdy tool. The only problem is the lock mechanism, which was copied from the original Leatherman Super Tool. It is not very safe. You have to partially (half) open another blade on the same handle to release the one that is in use.
Kutmaster USA Serpentine Jack. I was recently looking at a Klein, which is pretty much the same knife with a different tang stamp, however, it is stainless, not carbon steel. Which makes this knife even better. Still need to do a bit of sharpening on the pen blade.
Made in Germany "CAMP KNIFE" scout. Thinking made right after WWII. It is a shell-handle knife, much like the Kamp King (and I'm sure is a clone of). About the same small 84mm size as the Remington official BSA. Spear point blade, can opener (old school) and screwdriver/bottle opener. Blade tip and slotted SD have some dings.
Boker USA 8588 Medium Stockman. Full disclosure--this is the knife in my pocket right now. Got it cleaneld and put it to use. Has wear and tear, and the main blade has been reprofiled. Snap is perfectly fine, and it is tight. I've had the two-blade penknife version as an EDC for a while (8388) and am used to this frame.
Chinese-made SAK clone. I do collect knockoffs, mostly to show people what's not a SAK. This one is unique in that they put the Swiss cross on scales the same color as the Swiss flag. Something to note, quite often, they put this stuff on there to mislead. I have seen various crosses, stars (4-point), the logo of Spanish firm Aitor (which they themselves have a line of SAK-like knives, and also produced knives for the German Army alongside Victorinox), and even most blantanty, the Victorinox logo--all on this same pattern.
Yes, they were brazen enough to stamp the Swiss cross on BOTH handles!
A lot of these are going to be used. Actually, all but the little German-made Scout, fob knife, and the SAK clone, which are going in the collection. The Protocol is going in my truck Everything else is going to be added to my user rotation. While beaters, by my standards, these are almost all good knives. Given most of the knives I buy come by way of $30 and under eBay lots, my bar is pretty low.
from Treefarmer! I used the gloves and mask, thank goodness I did!! There were a few bad stinkers from Pakistan..ewwww...he did include a sweet Queen Steel Big Chief! I love it, it will go nicely with my Queen collection. Also included with the crap was a nice Camillus electrician's knife, I have several of them but I love them!!
