My latest Schrade

This one came from my Uncle Barry's Collection. He is deceased now, however, he was in charge of the Custom Knife and Quality Control sections at Schrade. His older brother Harold worked in the Custom Knife Section fir him and his older sister (my Mom) worked fir him in Quality Control. Schrade was truly a family oriented company.

Thanks gents, I don't know when they were making these, but the smooth silky action and the perfect snap with the zero movement at all when open is something. This acts and feels and pretty much looks like a custom costing several hundred smackers. Hat's off to the Schrade employees who put this together. I have other Schrades that are sweet, but none of them feel like this movement and action or are as dead centered and tight in all the right places. Sometimes they come out perfect.

That is a beauty, Ivoryman. I like the action on the old Schrades, too. No nail breakers, and even after more than half a century they usually still have snap.

Just in, a pinned (not Swinden) 61 OT. Mint with box. Hal Brandenburg and I in a chat, coined the word "slenderino" for these 3 9/16" and 4" knives. They are so pocket friendly and svelte, just good lookin.' It is generally believed that these pinned variations were made at Camillus. I have another one, so I can release this one for $50 if somebody wants one.

Jeffin modded this Schrade 8 OT and it rocks. Absolutely beautiful like rare bones, beautiful depth of color and speckles. The color really gets me excited. So does the edge that was already on it, no bevel really. Few strokes on the 800 grit sandpaper and it's hair popping dangerous. Love Schrade steel. So easy to sharpen and the steel feels good when you run your fingers over it. Bones too. Thanks Jeffin.

What years were these made ? 1959, '60 & '61 ?

I found this almost mint knife [with a big crack in the handle] on eBay, for $5.
After the only bid, I sent the nice little knife off to Dale Vincent.
This is how Dale sent my little knife,to me after some work on it... Ken

To the best of my knowledge, the first 8 OT was sold in 1961, there may have been some still about in 1962... Ken

Always nice to see that one done by Dale, Ken; thanks for showing it again. Roland, the years that you mentioned are the ones associated with the bone SW 8OT that I have seen repeated more than once. It would be nice to see the production numbers.

Great bones on that top one Koldgold. Almost looks like Case red bone. The good stuff. All of those are beauties all around.

Killer 8OTs - count me in as a fan of those early bone handles! The first appearance of the 8OT on paper was 1960.

My unsubstantiated take on the subject is that they had to make a few toward the end of 1959 in order to have them in the 1960 catalog, which, I believe that I read somewhere, was printed toward the end of 1959. I have an example that I believe isl a prototype, which Jason and I have discussed elsewhere. I wonder when the last of their bone was out of inventory? Delrin saved their ...."bacon."

That price list was from the 1960 sales meeting packet (on Larry's site) which would have been distributed in the second week of December '59. Regarding your prototype, I'd be shocked if it wasn't made in 1959.
