This one is floating down a lazy river (the USPS) towards me. I gave the one I had to my Cousin's husband and decided I really needed one in my small sub-3" collection. Unfortunately, I was not paying attention and just discovered it is not US made. The one I gave Mike was US made. Oh well, live and learn. The sub-3" collection is not all that important to me.

I'd say use it anyway. The 44OT was never made by ISC in huge numbers, so I'm looking at getting the Chinese version, even though that's breaking a collection rule, as I know they are so rare, I will not find a USA-made one under $20. For most Schrade USA knives, it's possible; though that exact model is a little tough to get it seems. I'm wanting to see how that one will do; as I like a knife that size for around the house, but fear at that size, the lock is hard to release. I have an 834UH and 72OT (both Chinese made) that are both passable knives, while others are complete and utter crap (LB-7, 5OT; both lockbacks with wobble and hard to release locks). The only problem I have is that 7Cr17MOV is not as good as Schrade+; despite the fact that Schrade+ is 440A, and 7Cr17MOV is said to be equivalent. And if I'm going Chinese, I can get a Rough Rider that is higher quality for less money. Problem is that you'll never see the Chinese Schrades go away. From what I'm hearing, they're great sellers; and I've noticed multiple small feed and hardware stores replacing Case displays with Schrade. I've been trying to promote Bear and Son a bit, but I don't think that's going anywhere. I don't even get how they're still in business, seeing as you see their stuff practically nowhere, and they lost the Remington license to Buck.

Gorgeous bone! I have a banged-up old Kutmaster (also with spear main) I'm hoping soon will one day look as good, not melted/shrunken plastic ad scales as it has now.

A Spyderco Byrd Slip-It Wings. I've looked at several different knives that had dual one-hand opening blades, and for the most part either they were too expensive, the steel was medicore (because they were low-end designs), too bulky (especially the Victorinox models on the 111mm frame)or they'd been long discontinued for many years. The Byrd is among those, but I found one that was sold as a factory second, but brand new for about $40. Being 3.75" closed, with blades just over 2.75" and a weight of just over 3.5 ounces, it's perfect. However, it is a slipjoint design, meaning no locks. That, however, gives me more incentive to swap it over to left-hand carry (I am a southpaw, and most knife locks are for right-handed people).

Oh, and two more Rough Riders, all with locking blades. I think both are discontinued models no longer sold through SMKW; but I didn't get ripped off. Price was MSRP.

RR1129 LIner Lock Trapper, or "Trapperlock". Been wanting to try this style for ages. The stud seems to copy an older Boker design from 15 years ago or so. $15 shipped was less than half what used Case Trapperlocks go for. I've been on the fence about knives that are basically traditional patterns with a thumb stud added, but we'll see.

Lockback One Arm Razor. I am a big fan of this size and type of the blade. I am very proficient with opening them one-handed, thanks to a Boker 495 Barlow from the '80s. Again, just over $15.

I have looked into these back before I went on my last vacation to the US & as far as I know, yes they were made for Tractor Supply. I went to a couple Tractor Supply stores looking for one. They had Case knives & they even had an empty spot in the showcase were there should have been a "Limited Edition Tractor Supply Case XX" (or something to that effect) but these "Barn Shield" knives were sold out in both of the stores I visited. So my answer is yes, these were made for Tractor Supply.

Tom, commenting on Tractor Supply, I find the one in our town is not too farm oriented. Oh they have all sorts of pieces and parts, hardware, feed and such but most of the time you have to explain or even draw a picture to get them to say, "No, we don't carry that." Their little rotary knife display is usually 3/4's empty, plus they don't open until 8 am. Not a big fan but I do still go there now and then. I even went to Walmart the other day, first time in 3 or 4 months, it was too hot to sit in the car.

Phil, in my area we have a few stores called AGRI-SUPPLY. They are fantastic stores, with good folks - you can nearly build a trailer of any sort with the parts they stock, lots of tools, lots of Case Knives (no special shields though). I tried 3 times once upon a time to order a part from Sears for an ancient riding mower I owned - kept coming in wrong even with the Sears part number. I remembered Agri-Supply and went there. Guy running the mower department had me my part in two minutes! I stop by occasionally just to walk around. OH

Bruce, up in Dothan there is a big, I mean BIG store called, Rural King that is probably the most complete store I've been in (only been there once). They have taken over an old K-mart facility and it was too big for an old man to see everything comfortably. I don't remember seeing their knives but there was a rack full of long guns, fishing tackle, clothing, shoes, boots, hardware, cow feed, water troughs, groceries, tractors in the parking lot and the list could go on. I'm sure they had Pop Tarts, too! Plus the employees were friendly and helpful. One employee told us that was one of the largest Rural King stores in the country. You could put 4 or 5 of our Tractor Supply stores inside of it!

Sounds like a great store Philip! Kinda place I could spend a whole day in!

Just fished my first Old Cutler out of the bay. Looks like it's in pretty good condition. Can't wait to get my hands on it! Wasn't cheap though. $33 shipped. It's the first one I have ever come across so I couldn't pass it up. Who knows when I'll get another chance at one of these & what kind of condition it might be in. I did the right thing. Maybe. LOL!

I wonder if they got a deal with Sears/Kmart? Every single one (2-3) we have within an hour radius of here is located within a former Sears or a Kmart. Ours is located in a mall, in a former Sears. Our RK even took over the former Sears Auto Center attached to our Sears. I'm hoping something goes into the two former Kmarts in my area. One's in a very small, and dilapidated mall, which means nothing's going in there. The other is right next door to a Tractor Supply (which itself was a former regional supermarket), meaning, definitely not Rural King! I'd say, most likely, IF something goes in there, it's going to be an outlet/clearance store like Big Lots or Ollie's.

Ours, last time I was there (just before Christmas last year) had mostly Ruko knives, and a handful of Leatherman. Chinese Schrades and USA Bucks were Christmas specials.

I bought these Kershaw A-100s to redo. They are a multitool with locking pliers. They also have a one-hand opening blade, something only the cheap Irwin Vise-Grip Multitools have. The Schrade Tough Grips are something I've wanted as well. Been wanting one to carry for a long time, but they are expensive. The lot cost just under $100, the cost of one good tool.

I know I can rework two of them from the worst one in the lot. #4 might be salvageable if the pin holding the spring for the locking spring isn't missing, as I can reprofile the jaws. #1 and #3 are each missing a screw/standoff I can pull from #2 (the worst one). I am going to keep one of the ones I redo as an EDC, and sell the other. I would probably keep it, but finances are tight this month. Two members on another forum wanted my leftover parts, so I should be able, once I resell the parts and the second repaired tool, to recoup at least half what I have in the lot.
