Ivoryman wrote: Sat Jul 18, 2020 1:04 am Don't know what you paid or what they are worth, but QTCut5 better known as Q, has traded these to some local pig hunters/fisherman in Hawaii. I hope he will chime in. I think the hunters love them for hunting and I think for corrosion resistance in moist even salt water environs. Looks like a stout, tough, all around hunter butcher knife that folds up.
Good memory, Ivoryman. Although it's been a few years since I had any Gerber Gators, the local hunters and fishermen here still ask me if I have any more to trade every time they see me...they really liked that knife, especially the drop point fine edge model which was perfect for skinning the wild boars and scraping the hides. The Gator's fat, textured, soft rubbery handle provided excellent purchase even when covered with blood and slime. For a period of time there I was trading 3 or 4 Gators per week for all kinds of fresh produce such as: bananas, papayas, mangoes, pineapple, avocados, figs, macadamia nuts, lilikoi, lychee, poi, tomatoes, sweet potatoes as well as locally grown & roasted Kona coffee, grass fed beef, pork and of course whatever catch-of-the-day the fishermen showed up with. Some hunters even wanted to trade wild goat meat (which I tried...once...but just couldn't stomach--very tough with a strong "gamey" taste). The best deal I ever made was two Gerber Gators in exchange for 10 lbs of fresh sashimi-grade ahi tuna (which sells in the local fish market for about $25/lb).
Thanks for chiming in. Appreciate it when someone tips me off to someone knowledgeable about a certain topic. Rather send it to the man than paraphrase.

Yep. I think they are the most economical vintage knives out there. Fit and finish is really good, steel is great, and cost is quite low.

I've had them ever since I found a rusted up Imperial Diamond Edge Stockman as a teenager at an antique store for $4. Got all the rust off, stripped the peeling brown paint (leaving a white finish), and sharpened it up. It was my work knife for about five years. When I started using eBay quite heavily, at least a couple would come in many of the lots I bought. I sharpened them up, and put them to good use. I've been thinking about customizing those the plastic shells have peeled completely off. I've seen people really go nuts painting them. I was thinking grip tape for those with smooth shells, and something like Plasti-Dip with the jigged shells.

Thanks all.
Switched out when I went to pick some berries and Camillus Sword started singing the siren song to me when I saw it as I walked by and I was hooked.

I have the whittler from that particular Tang Stamp Series run, great little knife. If you ever get tired of that Barlow, let me know.

After 2 weeks of Case bone, I decided to switch it up a little and pocket some micarta.

Y'all are all toting some very fine pocket cutlery!

I'm making do with these too. CASE TB back pocket and a 4 1/4" Eye Brand stockmen. I'm not well versed on the variations of the back pocket, but I've seen some with two bolsters I believe and quite a bit thicker than mine. I like the thinness on this one. It fairly disappears in your pocket.

Sweet EDCs guys!👍👍 I just sharpened these four to carry the next few weeks... A Camillus boy scout knife, a Queen '76 barlow and two Sabre Japan barlows ..it's funny how your taste changes over the years... I used to dislike barlows for some reason ::shrug:: .. now they're my favorite EDCs next to my trusty Cub scout knives..
