That would've given me two complete pattern sets. I can't complain or be piggish. Hopefully another will turn up. To soothe my disappointment I found something special. A GEC 73 trapper in American Elk with a stainless blade

I really do hope that you're not taking any of this personally. When I'm bidding on an item, I don't know who and I don't care who I'm bidding against. Even if I did, it isn't going to stop me from bidding. When I turned down that knife from BFORSE (Brandon), I asked him to ask you if you wanted it. I think that was pretty nice of me. I like friendly competition, let's keep it that way.

Absolutely Skip. The worst part is we cost each other money. I'm glad you got it and not someone recently enamored with them. Everyone is entitled. It looked in great condition. I also noticed a few letters on the blade. So that's cool too. Have a great weekend.

Today I'm adding this knife to my collection. It's a GEO. SCHRADE KNIFE CO., single blade, wire handle pocket knife. It required no cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

Re: wirejacks
Well, I've not been on for over a week, (been out traveling and visiting relatives). So I've been binge reading, Man ...... Skip, Joe, you guys have been finding some nice ones.
I did happen to get the 1926 Girl Scout set in. As in the sellers description and photo's the carrier / pouch was in bad shape. Very pleased with the items though.
But I also found this set. A Girl Scout set with a Green carrier. It's stiff, but in great shape. I have rubbed the inside with leather treatment I have that is a mix of lanolin, glycerin, mineral oil, bee's wax, hoping it will keep it from cracking and preserve it. I believe it is actually leather. It doesn't have the pebble finish of the pig skin ones, and the interior has the appearance, feel, color and texture of leather. The spoon is stamped Allegheny Stainless Steel with the WB over W. The Knife has the tang stamp Stainless Steel above and to the right of the bottle opener, with GEO. SCHRADE, KNIFE CO., patent date of 1-27-42, B'PORT, CT. The fork has GEO SCHRADE, KNIFE CO. INC., PAT.-1-72-42, B'PORT CONN.,U.S.A. Is the PAT-1-72-42 a stamp set error? Or was this common. Need to re-read this entire thread now.

Those are very good looking utensil kits you have there Smitty.

Here is the link to the different tang stamps for the wire-jacks.

Re: wirejacks
Appreciate it Skip. Yep, I went back and found the article, read through it last night. According to him, about half of the Girl Scout Forks in the kits he said he had seen with the error. Interesting article for sure. I downloaded and saved it for future reference.New_Windsor_NY wrote: ↑Wed Jul 15, 2020 1:25 pmThose are very good looking utensil kits you have there Smitty.![]()

The chow kits are not only cool but in today's world where not all restaurants are as trustworthy as we'd like, they serve a practical purpose. Yours are in excellent condition . It's possible the error date of 1-72-42 might actually be in the majority.

Today I'm adding this wire-jack pocket knife to my collection. It's a GEO SCHRADE, single blade, wire handle, Girl Scout, utensil kit, pocket knife. It's a beauty and I'd say it's in NEAR MINT condition. I got it as part of a one Boy Scout and two Girl Scout, utensil kit lot/group. I got all three for $21.47, including working man's punishment fee and shipping. All three have all three utensils. But only one had a wire handle fork and knife. The Boy Scout kit and the other Girl Scout kit are by Imperial. Nothing required any cleaning at all. If you're curious about the markings on the spoons, two are marked STAINLESS U.S.A. and the other is marked ALLEGHENY STAINLESS STEEL WB (over) W. I took some pictures, here is the knife, a group shot of the three utensil kits and individual pictures of all three utensil kits.

Re: wirejacks
Glad it was you that got it. I had saved it in my watch list, but didn't get back until after it ended. Unfortunately for me, my aunt & uncle and my cousin I was visiting doesn't have internet service, so I never checked on it. After I returned I saw where it had ended and the sale price. The only thing I could think was someone got a steal. Again, congratulations on the Steal.....err....I mean deal!!New_Windsor_NY wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 7:44 pm Today I'm adding this wire-jack pocket knife to my collection. Re: wirejacks
The six wirejack patterns. There are variations within each pattern plus differing tang stamps depending on date of manufacture. There is also one prototype of which there is believed to be only one. The hatchet/axe.
The two variations of the clip point, smooth and filed. The fish knife. The large hawkbill. The large spear point. The small hawkbill with a beryllium blade designed for the explosives industry. The small hawkbill with three different company tang stamps; Geo. Schrade, Boker and Case. The small spear point with both red and green finger guards when used as part of the Boy and Girl Scout Chow Kits. And on the bottom a small spear point without the opener notch. The earliest wirejack.
