Miniature Puma?

I've had this little knife for at least 45 years and was always curious about it. Is it really a Puma? The tang only says Solingen Germany but the sheath is marked Puma. Any info anyone can give would be appreciated!

Good question. Were all Puma knives marked "PUMA" ?
I would also like to know.
The next question is: did Puma make all of their own knives. The many Solingen knife manufacturers did a lot of sub contracting.

I would imagine it's subcontracted. That's why I'm curious because every other Puma I've seen has been marked. I've never seen another little one like this either.

The problem with emailing or contacting Puma is that there will probably be none or maybe just a few employees who were around 45+ years ago. Contact Puma in Germany, not the USA branch. They just act as an importer. I don't think they would know anything. I do know that some of the Puma's that showed up in the USA back then were imported by Gutmann Cutlery and a few others. I think Edge Brand was another. That style knife looks a lot like the ones I have seen from that period.

I think it is just a generic German knife that has been mismatched to a Puma sheath. I have had Pumas back to the early 1930s and every one was marked Puma. The pre-war marks were different than the modern marks but they were all well marked. Puma is proud of their products and I doubt they would make one without the mark.

It is actually a pin.Not sure if it is a Puma but it is a dead ringer for a 6393 Skinner.

I like Puma knives. I've done a fair bit of reading about the company's history etc. I'd also suggest your nice knife is most likely mismatched with that Puma sheath.

Thanks for the links bladecollector. I never heard back from multiple email to Puma, so I have to assume that you are correct, a German knife in a Puma sheath.
