Need tang stamp help "W.R.Case & Son"

My only tang stamp reference is the not-so- great picture in the "Counterfieting Antique Cutlery" (C.A.C.) book so I'm wondering if AAPK experts can weigh in. What say you all? Do I elevate this to the counterfeit forum or not?

Bear in mind that "W.R.Case & Son" was a jobbing company so the knife itself wasn't made by Case. But this might be problematic as it looks exactly like the widely contracted Utica Cut Co. toothpick and Utica wasn't up and running until 1910 according to Goins. Napanock and Platts (according to "C. A. C.") were supposed to have made most of this firm's pocket knives but I don't believe Napanock made a toothpick/tickler and I've never seen one made by Platts.

Not even close to near mint. There is not much to like about this knife, worn, pitted and heavily buffed. I find the tang stamp bothersome and I do not like W.R.'s without pattern numbers.

The knife may be legit. I’m no expert. It’s heavily buffed for sure, and IMHO worth no where even close to the asking price. That stamp W.R. CASE & SON in an arch over CUTLERY CO. (no city) is one of several stamps they used. The company under that name (“Son” being singular) was in existence only about two years. They had some knives made by others but made some in their own factory, according to Sargent’s.

Handles don't look original and any honesty, if ever there, looks to have been buffed away. I like Case knives and toothpick knives as well but don't like much about this knife.

Right off the bat, the slotted bolsters give me grave concern. But, if the decimal point on the price is moved 3 digits to the left, I might be interested.

All I did was look at the auction on fleabay and the seller messaged me an offer of 24% off - $799.99! Woohoo! Loods like he is ready to deal. I'm going to offer him $7.99
