Ode To The 07

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Picked this one up yesterday at an Indoor Farmers Market / Tradeday / Fleamarket! A 2010 Mini-T with Delrin handles in Navy Blue UF. That's what is printed on the box. No idea what the UF stands for. Ultra Flat ::shrug:: I already had one in this patter & color that is in my carry rotation. Just decided to get another to stick back, since it was at a good price.

Tom: "Gas on a fire" = GOALS!!!

Here's a little secret about my personal knife collecting parameters: As a collector, I tend to look at the pictures of the knives I have collected more than I look at the actual knives themselves. Please don't misunderstand what I'm saying here...I really really love all of my knives; but, the reason I love them is as much because of their aesthetic beauty as it is for their function. All the knives in my collection are essentially functional pieces of art, the vast majority will never be used. It's a difficult distinction to define since a significant reason for my adoration is their inherent function as a cutting tool. My esteem is based on an indefinable metric of both form & function. In other words, a knife appeals to me because I like how it looks as well as how it performs the basic functions of a knife cutting whatever I need it to cut.

Owning all the knives you like would be great (wish I could). Looking at pictures of all the knives you'd like to own is wonderful (dreams are what keeps us alive). Having pictures of all the knives in your collection is priceless because it doesn't cost a cent to look at knives you already own (or used to own, as the case may be!!!)

That same thought popped up in my mind today. For me, looking at the pictures is just as satisfying as handling the knife it represents (and so much easier). But that's just me.

You and me both, buddy. But, you gotta admit that there's something supremely satisfying about knowing that you also own that knife in the photo (or is that just me?)

Not just you at all. If we didn't get any satisfaction out of owning them, what would be the purpose of purchasing them? It would be a lot cheaper to sit around and look at pictures.

Visual = enjoyable
Tactile = sensual
Possession = sublime

Nice 2005 Lime Green 6207W, BTW, jerryd. The 07Ws from that year seem to be getting rarer and commanding higher prices when they do appear for sale on eBay. Congrats for snagging one while you still can (and a very nice one at that).

Both of those are actually Ultraviolet...for some reason one looks more blue than violet in the photo (in real life it doesn't look as blue...must have something to do with the lighting).

Here are my Smooth Indigo Blue Bone 07Ws. Once again, one is lighter in color than the other.
