I've long been curious about the shield on that one...What is it called? I always thought it looked like a Manta Ray so I dubbed it a "manta" shield. But, I've seen it referred to (in two separate silverladdy eBay listings) as a "celebration" shield and as a "lamp" or "brass lamp" shield (although the shield itself was nickel silver, not brass).

I can't get a clear enough view of the shields in either jerryd's or Smitty's photos, so not sure they're exactly the same as the one on my Toasted Amber Bone 07W, but the medallion in the blister-pak appears to have some words on it; I wonder if they might shed some light?...like if it was only affixed to knives that were released to commemorate / celebrate some event or company milestone, for example, then calling it a "celebration" shield would make sense.

Q, The shield on mine is exactly like the one on your toasted amber bone. I have always heard it referenced to as a Lamp Shield.

Smitty, the best I can tell, that appears to be a 2004 which originally came in a tin in a blisterpak. Ain't they pretty?

Case says it is Dark Red, but makes me think of a big juicy apple for some reason.

That's what the box says, Don't know what the UF stands for. "Ultra Flat" I already had one in this color with my carry rotation knives, but decided to add another.

Perhaps it is "ultra flat" but I think it is uncommonly fine anyway. Not all that glitters is gold, and just because it's flat doesn't necessarily mean it's dull. Another possible meaning is "unfinished" in reference to the blade finish--which on yours looks to be what is sometimes also called "as ground" but essentially means "unpolished."

Here's one I forgot to post. It's a RR1102 and she's a handful. You take your life in your hands just opening one blade, much less all five.
