Mike, sorry to 'bug' you, but with the 320 sandpaper do you go parallel to blade or across it ? What do you then use to remove the scratches from the blade surface left by the sanding ?

LOL... well... this may be a little "off the wall" but, I use the 320 sandpaper tape on the "sanding stick" first to get the file marks out of the blade. Then, when the sandpaper has worn a bit, I continue to use that same piece (sanding perpendicular to the blade) to get that milled look on the blade. The sanding tape/strip on the wood strip works a lot like a file. I use the same motion as I would with a file. Only in a true perpendicular stroke.
When I file a blade, I usually work in a "diagonal" fashion... again, with a SHARP file to make sure each stroke cuts.

What is this "sandpaper tape"? Is this something you purchase at a store or something you make?

Also when you are using the 320 grit sandpaper, you are only going perpendicular to the blade?
After using the 320 grit paper, are you going to 400, 600 grit?

I got mine from Brownells a few years back.
Yes, I sand perpendicular to get the effect you see on the knives I posted.
I stopped with the 320 to achieve the finish you see on the original posted knives. If you want a mirror finish you can go with finer papers until you get the finish you want.
