What years was worm groove bone used on Cattaragus knives.

welcome sandy. that's a tough one. catt., 1886-1963. worm groove bone handles were very much used by most of the cutlerys. have you a pic of one in question?

Tough question for sure but I have a Terrier English jack that has wormgroove bone and it was made 1910-1916. I also have a Genco lockback that was made till about 1935 that has it. It would be nice to see a picture of what you have to compare.

Wormgroove bone as well as rogers bone and Pic-bone, stag, and Celluloid--We know that celluloid was invented in 1869 by John W. Hyatt and 1st commercial use on pocket knives for this material was in 1872. As for wormgroove bone it also has been used on alot of pre-1930's knives from what I have seen. Especially on cattaraugus and most other brands. Pic-bone is another early detection-like the wormgroove. Bone Stag was wormgrooved to give it a real appearance of the original stag look. hope this helps a little

OK here is my latest wormgroove bone on a Terrier. Seems that Cattaraugus and Robeson used it alot besides others. I have seen it referred as Indian Trail bone also by some collectors of Cattaraugus knives.
