Prayers for Search Committee

There are times in each of our lives that rain falls, hard times come and it helps to reach out to our friends and to our God for a little support. This is the place to express those needs, concerns and situations so others in the AAPK family can keep you in their prayers.

Prayers for Search Committee

Post by dlr110 »

Folks, this evening will be our first meeting of our search committee for a new Pastor. I'm asking you to pray for Plainview Baptist Church and for our search committee. Pray that God will guide our search and that in His perfect timing would reveal the man He has ordained to be our Pastor.
Thank you all and God Bless you.

Hope all goes well. I think in the crazy times we have been having ( COVID-19 and
damaging protests in major cities) we need to make sense of it all and keep
mental peace.

I think religion helps us understand what we all go through in our daily life.

May God bless y'all in this time of searching for His will, and His man, to lead the local flock.
I have been on both sides of Pastor Search Committees, and while it can be a stressful time, I was always blessed through it. I have seen a lot of people pull together closer and trust God more when they were searching for a pastor. I hope that y'all experience this!

Heavenly Father...
I pray in agreement with David and all the members of the search committee. We all pray for this new servant to be sent by You for the leadership of this Church. Father, Your will and Your Wisdom is perfect. May Your will be done.

Thank you so much everyone. Our first meeting went very good, except for the fact that I got elected to be the committee "Spokesperson."
Based on past experiences and previous committee notes we established our rules, code of ethics as to each other and to all candidates. We also set up our meeting days/times what we needed to accomplish first before we even start looking at applications. I think God has provided a good group of believers and with His guidance we will find God's man for our church in a timely manner. Thank you so very much for your prayers everyone and God Bless you all.

UPDATE: Our committee is pretty well organized and now the daunting task begins. We now have a total of 105 resumes to go through and I can't believe how many good candidates, on paper anyway, there are. I called my brother who is a retired Baptist minister and asked him for some advice. He told me that when he looked at resumes for church positions, was there humility in their writing or when interviewed was there humility in their answers. He said when the person speaks it can't be all about me or I, it has to be about God, the church or the fellowship.

Friends I feel like I'm in over my head, so I really need prayers from everyone to help not just me, but all the others on our committee too. I'm sure they are having some of the same feelings of being overwhelmed. God's man for our church is in that stack of 105 resumes, we just need God's power of the Holy Spirit to draw us to that person. Please as you attend church this coming Father's Day remember us in prayer that our Heavenly Father will bless us in this task and our efforts will bring Him praise, honor, glory and the man He wants for Plainview Baptist Church. God's blessing to all of you. ::pray::

"God's man for our church is in that stack of 105 resumes"

Don't assume that. Don't pick a person out of that stack because you simply need to fill a position. The man God has chosen may not have applied yet. God is seldom early, but He's never late. Will certainly keep you in prayer, but God places the parts in the body as it pleases Him - 1 Cor. 12:18.
As for wisdom, I pray He will also give you and the committee that. All you have to do is ask - James 1:5.
Take care and God bless,

Amen Steve! God is never late.

David, I sense you are out of your comfort zone, good!
God takes us out of our comfort zones to teach us and to grow us in Him.
Maybe it is a time of refining for you: remember, God refines ore that bears the previous metal He seeks to refine. He does not refine worthless gravel. If He is refining you it is because He wishes to concentrate that which is precious in you. It is a Divine complement!

Father God, we ask that You would give David grace and wisdom as he and the search committee continues their search. But most of all Lord give them discernment as to whom you have picked.
I ask in Jesus name, Amen.

Amen to what has been said and prayed!
Use those 105 resume's as a starting point, and through prayer and the power of the Holy Spirit, God will continue to lead you to the right man, whether he is in that stack or not.
I like your brother's advice. As well, I hope that there are one or two women in your committee. God has granted many women of wisdom the ability to read body language as much as words (women's intuition!), and often they may see things that we men miss. Listen to how they "feel" about a candidate.
When you get closer, research the 'short list' candidates on all their Social Media accounts, and talk to others who know them. (We always followed their references, then asked those people to name someone else as a character reference. You find out a lot that way!).

Above all else, PRAY!
James 1:5 "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him."

We have resumed our work now. We are down to 10 Candidates who have answered and returned our initial set of questions. We have this coming week to read and prayerfully considered each candidate. I believe we will narrow this down to 3 to 5 and then conduct interviews. From that we will invite some to come and speak during a church service. At that point hopefully the Holy Spirit has shown us the man to call as our pastor.

God Bless

UPDATE: Last night our committee selected 4 individuals as our finalists in our search for a new Pastor. It was simply amazing how the Holy Spirit that lead us all to these 4 men. We plan now to view some videos of their preaching, then face to face interviews, or via video calls. I believe we will invite at least two to come and speak at our church and by that time, or maybe before, I believe God will reveal the right man for our church.

Thank you for your prayers and support.

David, we went thru a similar situation at our church in town. Glad to read that you are gaining ground. We went thru a similar process, and when we heard Pastor Travis ,the church knew ,he was our Pastor and made it happen. Thanks for sharing with us ,and stay safe .
