Looking for a Schrade Blade

Post by orvet »

Does anyone have a carbon steel sheepsfoot blade for a Schrade 804?
It is a whittler pattern with a large clip, a small clip & a sheepfoot blade.
It was also known as a Mechanic or Carpenter’s knife.

Willing to buy or trade for the correct blade.

Thanks,
Dale

Thanks Greg for your trouble, but I have one now, thanks to LT.

Do you know if the blades of yours have been heat treated or not?
Just curious as I have some like them.

Thanks again,
Dale

Dale, in my experience the blades were first tempered then ground (being kept cool by water jets) and polished. I took an unground "as stamped" blank and put it in a vice, put some vice grips on the tang and flexed it about 45 deg. and it broke like glass, examining the break with a magnifying glass I found the crystaline structure was quite coarse so I believe most to be tempered. Grind them but keep them cool so you don't foul up the temper.

Thanks Kaleb,
That is sort of what I expected.
Looks like my new wet ginder will come in handy.
