Lost Favorite Knife!

Hey folks. New here, found this place by accident. I have lost my Old Timer knife given to me by my mother-in-law. It belonged to her deceased husband and was purchased sometime during WWII when he was in the Army. I'm heartbroken to say the least. I carried it with me everyday, every hour, everywhere I went. I miss it terribly. I am still looking, backtracking every place I've been for the last three days.

In any event, I went online to find another like it and was greatly disappointed to learn the company is out of business and these knives are now manufactured in CHINA! I am NOT BUYING ANYTHING MADE IN CHINA, PERIOD!!! I'm not a Wal-Mart fan and have no clue as to whether they have anything that'll fit the bill or not. I'll pay triple for a good, MADE IN USA knife. Problem is I don't know much about knives or where to find good, made in USA knives.

What I'd like is a single blade model, approximately 3.25 to 3.5 inches closed. It will be a working knife so beauty is not necessary, just sturdiness and functionality. I would also be interested in a good quality, sturdy boot knife. I appreciate any information I can get from the experts here on this forum.

first, welcome to the site. sorry about your loss of the knife. we all feel your pain! i moved your post to this forum so that suggestions and offers to sell you a replacement will be had. we have many stores here on site that have knves that fit your criteria. good luck and watch out, this can become an addictive hobby.

So sorry for your lost knife Alan! I have a handful of knives that belonged to my grandparents, All of which are my favorites in my collection. (One went off to Kaleb for his touch, one I did for myself, and 3 are just the way their prior owners left them )

Anyways, Finding a good American made knife isn't nearly so hard now that we have the internet. Some Makers you might want to look at are Great Eastern Cutlery (they make a #73 in a single blade. little over 3.5 long, good carbon steel). Queen makes a large variety of knives, mostly in Stainless, but all in the US of A. Canal Street Cutlery makes a few in the size your looking for (Half moon trapper comes to mind right off the bat). Those folks are former Schrade employees, and lastly, You can probably find your exact knife, in New Old Stock condition on Ebay for not much money. I have a number of shiny new Schrade USA knives, all from that source.

Definitely check out the Stores of the members here, you'll almost always find what you want (Or, quite possible way more than you want)!

Welcome to the forum, Alan. I think you can find something to help ease the pain and suffering of your loss. I know what you mean about losing your favorite knife. There are many old Schrade USA made pocket knives around if you want to spend a little time searching for one. Someone on the forum may have one they will part with? Good luck.

I hate to hear about that lost knife.

As for a US made working knife, save some money and get you a good Case or Queen sodbuster type or knife. They are made for working with. Single blade. 3 5/8 inches. With the Case you have a choice of stainless or carbon steel. Tough handles. And under 30 bux.

Got no opinion about boot knives. I am sure someone here can suggest one to look at.

I really appreciate everyone's contribution. Since I posted this a day or so ago I have been spending ALOT of time researching this knife. I guess I never really thought about how much it meant to me emotionally until I didn't have it any more. I just got back from searching my car for at least the 61st time since this past Sunday. Honestly, I think if I ever find it I'm going to put it in the safe deposit box so I can get some sleep. I'll get another one to work with, heck with this stress. You'd think I'd lost one of my kids or something!

Best I can tell is I believe it to be a model 1049T. I found a few on ebay that look exactly like it. I'll probably bid on one of them.

if you own a ford...check where the seat mounts to the floorboard...ford has some wierd thing going on...everytime something is put on the seat..it eats it...sends it down to the seat mount...and it goes under the carpet...hell of a time getting that stuff out...
i have found things in my truck i lost a decade ago...

If you sit in a recliner (Lazy Boy) or similar chair, check deep down in the sides, even on the floor under the recliner,,,,,when I lose mine, that's the first place I go.

I understand your pain. I would rather tear something up and know what happened to it than to lose it and always wonder. You never stop looking. A neighbor and friend recently found an Old Timer he had lost over 10 years ago. He was one HAPPY camper!
I have a couple of suggestions of places that you should look if you have not already done so.
First, if you ever sit or lie on a sofa or love seat, check not only under the cushions but also down the sides against the frame, then turn it upside down and listen to hear if anything rattles. I have found a couple of lost knives that way.( and enough change to take the wife out for dinner), Next, check your pockets. No, not the ones your're wearing, the pants you have hanging in the closet or folded and put away. You never know........
The only good thing about losing a knife is it gives you an excuse to get another one; as if we need an excuse!!!
