Hand Forged??? Scissors

Post by Mossdancer »

What is your guesstimate of age and the Hand Forging question?
Do you recognize either of the marks? All replies welcome.

I would have guessed older based on the design. A replica of an older pattern perhaps ::shrug:: .

For Its worth I found this with a short search. Evidently Mr. Monkhouse was in business earlier.

"In any case, Carl Monkhouse moved his family to Allegheny, NY in the mid-1930s, and there re-opened his facility in 1937, as Cutlery Associates (still operating, now under the management of his grandson, Carl Monkhouse III).

So, it's clear (to me) that he manufactured this razor's blade in Germany, probably no later than 1935-36, and had "Made in Spain" stamped on the shank at the request of the Filarmonica's manufacturer. I doubt very much that the manufacturer would have gone to the trouble of commissioning the blades after he'd moved to the US; especially during the later-1930s, given the pre-WWII Nazi activities in Europe during that period."

I am still searching.
