I'm thinking out loud here, but that might be a S&W Victory model that was used by the British? BAS = British Armed Services? It looks to have been re barreled because the barrel is marked for .38 Special and these were in .38 S&W originally. The barrel also looks newer than the rest of the pistol. Nice revolver!

If no one here can answer your questions you might try here https://www.smithandwessonforums.com/. There’s no cost to join and the members there are friendly and helpful. You can also send your inquiry directly to Smith & Wesson. Not sure but they may charge a small fee to research your revolver. If you go that route you’ll get a factory certified letter with more info than you ever knew existed telling the history of when it was made, to whom it was shipped, etc.

Okay, I finally have the pennies for an Uberti Cattleman II. I'll be getting the .357 caliber.
Now I'm waiting on my NJ Pistol Permit before I can get the gun.
In the meantime, I'm looking for a holster in the old west tradition that will carry an SAA 1873 Colt replica with a 5-1/2 inch barrel. I'd like to keep it under $150 for holster and belt, closer to $100 for the rig would be even better. Any ideas?

By the way, thinking of a cross-draw. Don't know why. I've never worn a holster. Any of you guys cross draw, and why or why not?

Here is a bunch of folks that seem to be reasonable with their prices. AND they have some NICE looking holsters.

https://www.historicalemporium.com/west ... istols.php

I got my "3:10 to Yuma" holster off ebay. I can't remember the seller's name but but he sure made a NICE holster.
Make sure you get a holster fitted for your pistol. The seller I bought from went to great pains to know the exact pistol I had. He even had a satisfaction guarantee. Seems like I paid about $200 for mine.
Here is the sellers picture.... I got mine in black.

If you’re buying it for looks and to just take it to the range and shoot it occasionally, just get what you like. Cross draw should be fine. However, later you’ll probably wish you had something different. Not because it’s cross draw - just because that’s how most of us are wired! If you started with conventional draw you’d probably be wondering if you would like cross draw better. ::undecided::

Well sarge iff'n you wus gonna be around Canton TX. Next Monday for trade day, you could probably get one that suited you just fine, at a decent price. But it may not be open since the world turned upside down. It'd be a fur piece to drive for you, but then again gas is cheap. Several sites on the net. Good luck buddy. ::handshake::

Homer check your calendar again. The next Canton First Monday Trade Days starts May 30th (First Monday is June 1). I haven’t heard anything about what impact the virus will have but about 85-90% of it is outdoors. I just heard it will be open, probably with some restrictions. Providing adequate restroom facilities that meet the guidelines is probably the biggest challenge. Last I heard the governor’s office is expected to issue some revised guidelines tomorrow (May 15th) so they’re probably waiting for that to decide what the trade days policy will be. Details will be found here: https://www.firstmondaycanton.com/

As for this coming week-end, Third Monday Trade Days in McKinney would be the place, and it will be open. It’s probably 95% outdoors. Of course it’s much smaller than Canton but is operated by the same people. https://thirdmondaytradedays.com/

It's only about 90 minutes from my daughter's place. She's right on the very east side of Ft Worth.
But then again, it's about 1500 miles from me to her!

Just checked - she's less than an hour to McKinney.

Did you get your Uberti yet? My local gunshop has one just like it in stock that I have my eye on to go with my other Uberti Bisley.

Not yet.
Still waiting on the NJ gov'ment to process my permit.
Also have to wait for the gov'nor to allow stores to open up.
Found a dealer down in Glassboro, 'bout half an hour down the road. From their website looks like they have a decent selection of what I'm looking for.
Should the paperwork come in before the shops open up, the dealer will work by appointment.

May 16th I started the process. Can take 6-8 weeks.

Breaking News : Elmer Fudd and Yosemite Sam have had their guns confiscated! Sure, they probably inspired who knows how many psycho killers to commit gun violence over the years, but c'mon! The PC crowd gets wackier every day.

Wow, here in South Dakota I can walk into the gunshop with money in hand, fill out federal form, they call it in for background check, I pay and done. Last one took 10-12 minutes. The governor here declared gunshops essential and they never closed. Wild west huh! lol

OLDE CUTLER wrote: Tue Apr 28, 2020 4:54 pm The new shoulder holster I just finished also fits the new Ruger Wrangler. Ruger came out with the Wrangler several months ago as a less expensive 22 single action. I had been fondling and drooling on the ones at the gunshows over the winter and picked one up a while back. It is a 22 short, long, long rifle only (no magnum cylinder), with the frame, grip, and trigger guard made from aluminum alloy. The barrel and cylinder are blued steel. The grips are checkered black composition. The alloy parts are available in 3 Cerracote colors, silver, bronze, and as mine which is black. It comes in 4 5/8" barrel only at this time. It uses the standard Ruger new model single action operating system with the transfer bar, and opening the loading gate is all that is needed to reload the cylinder. One thing that is somewhat different than the Single Six is that when the loading gate is opened, the cylinder can be turned in either direction. After I had mine out to the range, I can report that it is a good shooter too. Mine shoots to the point of impact just below the top of the front sight out to about 25 yards. I also was able to shoot some various brands of 22 long rifle ammo over the chronograph to get an idea of what velocities can be expected with the results as follows:
Winchester high velocity hollow point =1012 feet per second
Federal hvhp = 1001 fps
Remington hvhp = 981 fps
CCI Mini Mag hp = 974 fps
CCI Stinger hp = 1151 fps
Federal AM 22 solid = 1012 fps

The manufacturers list price for the Wrangler is $249, but most gunshops including my favorite local one are selling it for $199. I think it is a great all around piece for plinking and small game hunting, and will do well as a 22 kit gun also.

IMG_3626.JPG
I am thinking that will probably be the perfect woods gun for me. I've been wanting something that is a small revolver, small caliber as well. Something I can easily carry on my hip; and fairly easy to clean. Not an antique, and inexpensive at $200. But given Virginia now and the new gun laws coming into effect, whoo boy. I hate to imagine what the headaches in buying it are gonna be, even a small .22 gun such as this. I might as well move to a bit less stupid (read, not blue) state.

Steve, what you are facing is so foreign to some of us!
Florida has apparently been a good place to live when it come to firearms purchasing.
We have had the Federal background check for years , no permits are required, there is a waiting period but if you have a concealed carry permit, it doesn't apply.
Governor Scott, our previous governor, caved in to the gun grabbers after the school shooting down on the lower east coast and pushed through a law that you had to be 21 to buy a gun. He was a pretty good governor but was running for Senator against a long time incumbent low life that was anti 2nd Amendment all the way. Had he not been running(he did win) he probably wouldn't have done the knee jerk reaction that deprives young voting age adults the right to purchase a firearm. They can go and join the Corps and play in the Middle East with all sorts of weaponry but they can't buy a weapon for protection at home. ::shrug::
We are facing uphill battles constantly in Florida, as our Secretary of Agriculture, who is also a low life, decided to close down the section of her office that is required to issue the CC permits after an individual jumps through the required hoops. She had a lawsuit against her because of this a few weeks back.
It is so sad that so many states want citizens to be victims!

Interesting revolver. I've never seen one like it before. Yes the Winchester Super X .22 is safe to fire. Should be pretty good ammo.

Ammo will last a really long time. I have surplus Korean war M1 Garand Ball ammo that fires fine. Tarnish is fine. I'd clean off any overt rust, if they had any...but they look good from here.
