my daughter is pushing eleven and she is afraid of me bring a knife within 10 feet of her.
my 18 month old son on the other hand says"ouchie,ouchie" and trys to grab the open blade!!!

I just stumbled on this site by accident today and was pleasantly surprised to see the photo of your collection. You must be Pete's son. Allow me to introduce myself, I am R.J. Kegler and just so that you know I am not an imposter, heres something only your family or I would know (its a damn shame that the pearl handled boot knife in the hand tooled leather wallet that I made for Jeanne got stolen). If anyone would like further info on R.J. Kegler knives, just let me know.

For those interested, here is a brief history of R.J. Kegler knives. I have had a fascination with knives since I was 5 years old (won't get into that here). In the early 1980's when I discovered the world of custom knives, I thought they were the most beautiful knives I had ever seen, so I sent for a few makers brochures. When I saw the prices, I realized I could not afford them. I thought hell they are just men like me, If they can do it so can I. I started setting up at gun shows selling my knives. early ones were stamped R.J. Kegler and I was not satisfied with the stamping so I invested in an electro-chemical etcher. These are the ones with the sword under the name. Or the gorean short sword as I like to call it (anyone who has read John Normans sci-fi novels about the counter earth, Gor, will know what I am talking about). These look much more professional. I no longer make knives as I had to get a 9-5 job to support a family. Been working as a goldsmith for a high end jeweler in the Buffalo N.Y. area for the past 18 years. If you are interested in collecting R.J. Kegler knives, there are only 130 of them out there. I have put aside only one of them for my son. I will try to download some photos of it soon.

I can relate to what you've been through. I went down the same road myself and have only the first knife I made to show for my efforts. From what I could see in the pictures, you did some great work.

The competition in that field is rough. There are some amazing artists out there.

As promised here are some photos of the only Kegler knife that I kept for my son. it is an interframe folder made of 440c stainless, hollow ground, brass liners, nickle silver handles with genuine turquoise inlays. Overall length open is 7 3/4 inches. It is the only interframe folder that I made. Hope you like it.

Roar69...if that was my knife, to me it would be PRICELESS. Not sure why it doesn't have the 'sword' stamp under the name, but then, that knife may have been made prior to Mr. Kegler using the sword stamp. Nevertheless, if Mr. Kegler only made a total of 130 knives...then you have a beauty, if it's an authentic R.J. Kegler knife. Maybe someone will come along and know more info.

Stamp looks like early Kegler to me.

And the style of the knife fits the middle to late 80s era.

roar69; that is a gorgeous knife, like all of Ken's. It looks like storing it in the sheath has caused some verdigris on the brass, there should be someone here that can tell you how to remove it without marring the knife. I don't store any knives in the sheaths, even the ones I carry huntin'. I keep all the leather together in a different drawer with a note that says which knife goes in it. Thanks
