Not being a big fan of excessive decorative embellishment, I was surprised to discover how many knives I own with fancy filework.
Being bored in quarantine and with nothing better to do, I decided to show some of my fileworked knives.

've always been scared to buy them worked back spring knives....I do have a couple worked Bobby P. knives that have file work...I gotta start posting pic's again i'm going home this weekend and will get a camera out I used on ebay listing back a few years ago

Is this filework done by hand? Does it weaken the spring?

If filework is done on the bolsters is it done by hand or machine?

Those are some pretty knives fellers, I'm not a big fan, there may another one around somewhere but I can't locate it right now.
One hand made by ole paki- stan, the other Colonial ole cutler.

Thanks for the kind words. That knife is unmarked but has all the earmarks of a Kastor Bros.;whether it be Adolph or Nathan(have knives by both).I should have listed who the knives were made by.From the top:
The belt buckle is by the Nolen Brothers circa 1974.
The next one is a friction folder(his first one)by Tom McLuin of Dracut Mass.;a good friend and great maker. I have four of his knives.
Below that is a small gent's folder by Frank Carlisle of Detroit Michigan;bought at an antique shop for $27.
Next is a stag multiblade by Tonerini of Scarperia that I practiced my file talents(?)on because the spines were soft enough to do so.I'm NOT quitting my day job!
Below that is my pride and joy:a liner lock made by Jason Williams of Wyoming Rhode Island.It was his 14th knife he made when he was 19 years old. The workmanship is incredible;even on the inside!
The above mentioned horn handled multiblade is I believe a Kastor Brothers knife even though it is unmarked.
The last one is also unmarked and somewhat of a mystery.Four blades;pearl handles;sunken joints;and some beautiful filework on the back springs and looks very old.Can't believe that one was never stamped.Here are a couple more shots of it.

Well, sometimes survival trumps art.

Here'a a couple I had to let go for the same reason:

Here are a few more.The first 3 automatics were done by me because the blade spines were soft enough to file.
#4 is a Bertram trapper.
#5 & 6 is a Browning fixed blade made in Japan as a limited edition.
#7 is an old razor with fileworked blade by C.Baker & Sons.
#8 is a desk set by Eloi Pernet of France with file work around the perimeter of the scissors handles.
#9 is a 1960's recreation of an early I*XL bowie by Fred James of England.
#10 is an unmarked modern bowie.

#1 is a Hubertus knicker knife that was a gift from a friend from Germany.
#2 is an Olsen 4800 fixed blade.
#3 is a Precise folder with file work and etching all over the knife.
